Summary
Nintendo recently released a teaser for an upcoming game,Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which will be based in theKalos region’s Lumiose City. While the preview showed off some of the Pokémon that will likely appear in the game, there are plenty of Kalos region staples that fans will likely want to see in the new game. IfZ-Ais anythinglikePokémon Legends: Arceus, this may be players’ first chance to see 3D versions of these fan-favorite Pokémon strolling around in their home region.
According to the teaser, the entirety ofPokémon Legends: Z-Awill be set within Lumiose City,Pokémon’s equivalent of Paris, France. That means players should probably expect to see Pokémon that would make sense to appear in the city limits. As the namePokémon Legendsimplies, players can likely also expect to see some of the region’s legendary Pokémon as well.

10 Pokémon That Deserve A Mega Evolution In Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Pokémon Legends Z-A Mega Evolutions are being discussed, with the community theorizing that this fan-favorite mechanic may return in the future.
Zygarde Is A Unique Kalos Legendary Pokémon
Zygarde Is A Legendary Pokémon Made Up Of Smaller Parts
Zygarde is one of the more unique Legendary Pokémon. Its body is made up of several Zygarde cores and a large number of Zygarde cells. Depending on how many cores and cells are assembled at a given time,Zygarde will appear in different forms. With only 10% of itself put together, it looks like a dog, at 50% it is a large slug-like Pokémon, and at 100% it looks more humanoid. It first appeared inPokémon XandY, which was players’ first visit to the Kalos region.
Zygarde seems to be a shoo-in forPokémon Legends: Z-A. After all, it is a Legendary Pokémon, it is native to Kalos, and its name starts with a Z. If the game has similar open-world exploration toPokémon Legends: Arceus, thenZygarde cells would also make the perfect collectiblefor players. Perhaps they will need to assemble a fully-fledged Zygarde instead of encountering one that has already reached its final form.

Yveltal Is One Of The Region’s Most Iconic Legendaries
Yveltal Was The Mascot For Pokémon Y
Yveltal is a large flying Legendary Pokémon that is in the shape of a Y. It was the cover Pokémon forPokémon Yand is one of the Legendaries that was originally introduced along with the Kalos region. It has the ability to turn people and Pokémon to stone, which it showed off inPokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, as well as in the anime. Yveltal also has some unique abilities in the mainline games, like its ability Dark Aura or the move Oblivion Wing.
The titlePokémon Legends: Z-Aseems to imply that playerswill be seeing more than just one Legendary Pokémon. It would only make sense that players would at least see all the Legendaries that are native to the region where the game is taking place. That said, with the entire game taking place in a city, it will be interesting to see why all the Legendary Pokémon may turn up there. Still, seeing a massive Yveltal flying around the Lumiose Gym tower would be quite the sight.

Xerneas Is One Of The Most Important Pokémon In Kalos’ Lore
Xerneas Was The Mascot For Pokémon X
Xerneas is the counterpart to Yveltal and was the mascot forPokémon X. The deer-like Pokémon has powerful life-granting abilities and has also been shown to reverse the effects of Yveltal turning creatures to stone. Xerneas also has its own unique move (Geomancy) and a unique ability (Fairy Aura). Xerneas can also take the form of a tree if it spends too much of its energy, recharging its power over long periods before awakening again, which was seen inPokémon X.
Whether dormant and in tree form or alive and kicking, it would be nice to see some sign of Xerneas inPokémon Legends: Z-A. Xerneas isone of the most iconic Legendary Pokémon from the Kalos region, and it would be hard to imagine a game taking place in the region without it. Besides, as the only Legendary Pokémon whose name starts with X,Pokémon Legendsis going to need Xerneas if it intends to cover the whole alphabet.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus Review - More Than A Trainer Journey
Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes risks to introduce new gameplay to an old series, restoring the enjoyment in a trainer journey and Pokémon story.
Tyrantrum Is One Of Kalos Region’s Most Recognizable Pokémon
Tyrantrum Is Pokémon’s Version Of A T-Rex
Aside from Legendary Pokémon, players can likely expect to see plenty of normal Pokémon from the Kalos region inPokémon Legends: Z-A. Perhapsone of the most distinct-looking Pokémonthat was introduced in this region is Tyranatrum. This massive rocky T-Rex is the type of Pokémon design that stands out from the crowd, even if the Pokémon itself isn’t a top-tier choice for a team. Tyrantrum could, however, make an interesting addition to the game’s narrative.
Now, Tyrantrum would likely stick out wandering the streets of Lumiose City, but that may actually be a benefit. What better way to communicate something has gone unexpectedly wrong than seeing a massive dragon-type Pokémon stomping down a city street? That could make a Tyrantrum the perfect Pokémon to use for the story’s turning point. After all,Pokémon Legends: Z-Adescribes itself as an adventure, so it seems unlikely that everything is going to go completely smoothly with Lumiose City’s renovation project.
Pancham Could Come In Handy In The Game’s Story
Fighting Pokémon Are Often Used For Construction
Pancham is another Kalos region Pokémon that it’s hard to imagine not seeing in the game. The cute little fighting panda bear is easily one of the more recognizable Gen VI Pokémon. Pancham also seems like a perfect fit as the type of Pokémon one would expect to see around a city, especially a city that is under construction.
Fighting-type Pokémon are oftenused as part of construction crews. Pokémon like Gurdurr or Timburr are specifically designed for this, but it is also common to see generally muscular Pokémon like Machamp hanging around a building site. It would, therefore, make sense to see some Pancham and its evolution, Pangoro hanging around construction sites in Lumiose City. Since the teaser forPokémon Legends: Z-Amade it clear that the city’s renovation project will play a large role in the game, there will likely be plenty of workers around the city, hopefully aided by some Pancham.
Klefki Could Have A Unique Purpose In The Game
Klefki Likes To Collect Keys
Klefki is one of those Pokémon that catches some flak for its design. Though not as egregious as something like Garbodor, Kling, or Klang, Klefki is largely just an object with eyes. As more new Pokémon are released with each generation, lackluster designs like this often stand out as the Pokémon Company seemingly trying to just fill numbers in the Pokédex. However,Pokémon Legends: Z-Acould use Klefki in an interesting way that might help it escape its negative reputation.
SincePokémon Legends: Z-Ais set in a large city, it could be fun to see Klefki used as a way to gain access to certain buildings in the game. See, Klefki itself is just the key ring, and the keys on it are ones it has collected. That means catching aKlefki could also be a way for a player to find new keys. This could be a fun way to make players much more excited about finding a Klefki than they might otherwise be.
Greninja Is A Fan-Favorite Across Pokémon Media
Greninja Is Popular In The Games, TCG, And Crossover Franchises
Not all Pokémon generations hit it out of the park with their starters. After so many generations of grass, fire, and water starters, it is hard for them to differentiate themselves, even when they gain other types through evolution. However, every once in a while, a new starter Pokémon manages to break through and become a fan favorite. In the Kalos region, water starter Froakie gained popularity thanks to its awesome final evolution: Greninja.
Greninja has a lot going for it. First, its name and design are excellent. The way its tongue wraps around itself to look like a little scarf isn’t just cool, but it also adds a lot of dynamic energy to its poses. Greninja is also a solid Pokémon in the games and the Pokémon TCG. This combination of a great design and functionality makes itone of the most-loved Pokémon from the Kalosregion, and it would be a shock not to see one in the new game.
Fletchling Will Help Cement The Feeling Of Being In Kalos
Pokémon Regions Typically Have Local Birds Unique To Each Region
One of the ways players can tell Pokémon regions apart from one another is bythe local bird-type Pokémonthat live there. As the local Kalos region bird, it would make sense for there to be a lot of Fletchlings flying around in Lumiose City. It would also feel very authentic to city living to have a lot of birds hanging around. It would also be fun to have a small area in the city where people could go and feed the birds, maybe a mixture of Fletchlings and Pidgeys, which were seen in the trailer.
Fletchling can also evolve into Talonflame, which is a pretty solid attacker. This would mean that Fletching would both provide a good atmosphere for Lumiose City and also a good Pokémon for players’ teams.Pokémon Legends: Z-Awill hopefully pay attention to these types of details and help differentiate the Kalos region from the Hisui region in the previous game.
Diancie Is A Mythical Pokémon Which Could Be Useful In The Story
Diancie Can Create Diamonds
Much like how Carbon can be turned into a diamond, a Carbink in Pokémon can, under the right circumstances, turn into the Mythical Pokémon Diancie. Diancie was originally introduced inPokémon XandY, and it has strong ties to the Kalos region and Xerneas. This coupled with the fact that it is rare and of a similar status as Legendary Pokémon, it would make sense forPokémon Legends: Z-Ato include it as one of its titular legends.
It’s hard to say exactly what role Diancie might play in the story ofPokémon Legends: Z-A, but there are some possibilities. For one, this Pokémon can easily create diamonds. It could very well be sought-after by the game’s antagonist as a way to make money, or it could possibly be a valuable resource for funding the city’s renovation project. However the developers decide to work it in, Diancie seems likea good fit for a game focused on Kalos legends.
Every Pokémon In Detective Pikachu
Detective Pikachu is packed with Pokémon of all different types, particularly from the first generation, from a “detective Pikachu” to Mewtwo.
Clawitzer Is One Of Kalos Region’s Coolest Designs
Clawitzer’s Massive Cannon Arm Makes It Very Memorable
Clowitzer is another Kalos Pokémon that would just be fun to see in the game. A tiny shrimp with a massive cannon arm is a standout design from this generation of Pokémon. Though this is more of a coastal Pokémon, andPokémon Legends: Z-Awill be set in the city, there are still ways Clawitzer could appear. Perhaps the city has an aquarium or a stocked fishing pond where players can find Pokémon that would normally be in different parts of the region.
Pokémon Legends: Z-Ais likely going to include a lot of Pokémon. Its predecessor,Pokémon Legends: Arceus, had nearly 250 Pokémon in its Pokédex. With only 69 new Pokémon introduced inPokémon XandY’s Kalos region, the game could easily include every single one and still have plenty of room for fan favorites from other regions. However, if the game does decide to make cuts, it will hopefully at least include some of the most noteworthy Pokémon introduced in Kalos.
