Summary

Warning: Spoilers for Cobra Kai season 6 part 1

A key betrayal inCobra Kaiseason 6 part 1 opens the door for Terry Silver to worm his way back into the picture. Played by Thomas Ian Griffith,The Karate Kid Part IIIvillain disappeared from sight after his defeat in theCobra Kaiseason 5 finale. However, multiple theories have long postulated that despite the downfall of his dojo, Silver will wind up playing a role in the show’s final outing.

Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid and Daniel LaRusso in Cobra Kai

As the season 6 premiere noted,Terry Silver’s arrest isn’t necessarily blocking him from coming back, as Amanda was quick to suggest that he may attempt to have the charges against him dropped. And admittedly that scenario is possible. What does serve as an obstacle to his return, though, is his lack of support. Daniel LaRusso argued that after what happened, Silver can’t pose a threat anymore. In Daniel’s words, “no one’s ever going to fight for that guy again.” At this point in the series, that claim was most likely true, but circumstances may have since changed.

Through a box full of Mr. Miyagi’s belongings, Daniel learns a lot more about Mr. Miyagi’s mysterious past in Cobra Kai season 6 than he ever expected

Devon’s Cheating Could Send Kenny Back To Terry Silver

Kenny Might Be Willing To Hear Terry Silver Out Now

During season 5, Kenny Payne was the closest thing Terry Silver had to a protégé. Of course, he lost Kenny along with the rest of his students when his cheating in season 4’s All Valley Karate Tournament was exposed. Kenny seemed to be turning the page on that chapter in his life, but getting robbed of his spot onMiyagi-do’s Sekai Taikai teamis sure to complicate those efforts. Having been betrayed by one of his teammates and now on the outside looking in when it comes to the Sekai Taikai,Kenny could be open to another team-up with Silver.

As it stands, Kenny is right about being cheated out of a chance to compete, but is wrong about who was responsible. In his mind, Anthony is to blame - and that’s a misguided perception Terry Silver can use to get Kenny back on his side. It’s not hard to imagine Silver acting on Kenny’s grudge against Anthony;Silver also shares a dislike of a member of the LaRusso family and can use that to appeal to Kenny.

Of course, what Kenny now knows about Silver is the biggest reason why this alliance may be hard for the latter to pull off. But, expressing regret for his actions could help his case. Plus, there’s the bond he already had with Kenny; of all the senseis in the series,he’s the only one who ever tried to connect with Kenny, and that’s something that could have a huge influence on whatever decision he ultimately makes inCobra Kaiseason 6’s remaining episodes.

Terry Silver & Kenny Payne Can Be Each Other’s Ticket To The Sekai Taikai Tournament

Kenny once again allowing himself to be taken under Terry Silver’s wing makes sense for both characters' arcs inCobra Kai. It shouldn’t be forgotten that it was Silver who put the Sekai Taikai on everyone’s radar to begin with. Winning it was his ultimate goal, and though his arrest was a major setback, that’s not to say he’s given up.Arguably his best option for getting what he wants is to turn to the same person he hoped would win it for him in the first place- Kenny Payne.

If Terry Silver can win him back, he might be able to quickly assemble a few other fighters to support Kenny in the Sekai Taikai. Similar towhat Terry Silver did inThe Karate Kid IIIwith Mike Barnes,he could use his finances to put together a small team. Getting entered into the competition could be tricky, but the fact that Kenny and Silver played roles in gaining admission for Cobra Kai could work in their favor.

This detail could also shape Kenny’s motivations. Kenny secured a place in the Sekai Taikai tournament for Cobra Kai by beating Hawk, hence why he might feel a chance to compete is owed to him. Mike Barnes' selection process denying him that opportunity could only enflame him, intensifying his desire to participate - with or without Miyagi-do. Thereotically, Kenny could be thesecret member of Kreese’s Cobra Kai teamfor the same reason, but his pre-existing dynamic with Terry Silver makes a partnership with him a more feasible path.

A Terry Silver & Kenny Payne Team-Up Will Make The Sekai Taikai Even More Exciting

Rather than riskCobra Kaiseason 6 becoming too crowded with plotlines, bringing Silver and Kenny back together for the Sekai Taikai will help the series give closure to existing conflicts. What happened to Kenny provided setup for Devon Lee’s role in the fights to come, but with the pieces of the puzzle currently in place, there’s no clear place for that storyline to progress as long as they’re in Barcelona without Anthony and Kenny. Butif Kenny is there and an active participant, Devon’s betrayal could be a major plot point during the competition.

A much bigger storyline that can find resolution from such a twist is the feud between Silver and Kreese. Kreese vowed revenge on Silver in theCobra Kaiseason 4 finale but has yet to lash out at him directly. Being in prison prevented Kreese from doing anything more than manipulate things from the shadows, which is hardly his style. Now that he’s on the loose,Kreese should be free to strike out at Silver personally,as opposed to helping someone else stop him.

A three-way race to win the Sekai Taikai feels like a fitting way to continue the dojo warinCobra Kaiseason 6. With Silver and Kreese’s falling out at the end of season 4, the show’s villain faction essentially split into two. Silver’s defeat reverted the show back to a two-pronged battle, but the stakes of the tournament and Kreese’s personal arc call for Terry Silver to work his way back into the narrative. Kreese wants revenge on both Silver andJohnny and Daniel’s Miyagi-do dojo, so having Silver on hand would give him a chance to compete against all of his enemies.

Traditionally, there are only two dojos that matter inThe Karate KidandCobra Kai’skarate competitions, but the Sekai Taikai should be an exception to the rule. As a world tournament,it would be off-putting for Miyagi-do and Cobra Kai to be depicted as the only teams with any shot at winning. If the Sekai Taikai is to feel like the biggest tournament the franchise has ever done, it should be an event where multiple parties are relevant to the story.
