Some of the original Red Ranger’s most fascinating adventures must have happened offscreen inPower Rangers. While Austin St. John, Walter Emanuel Jones, and Thuy Trangleft the cast ofMighty Morphin Power Rangersmidway through season 2, the franchise would forever be associated with its original characters. The first Red Ranger remained the benchmark to which all otherPower Rangersteamleaders would be compared, not to mention how Jason got to return a few times after he first exited the team in 1994.

Following his departure inMMPRseason 2,Jason returned toPower RangersduringZeoand became the Gold Ranger. Not much was revealed about what happened to Jason between the events of “The Power Transfer” and his surprising return inZeo, leaving viewers to fill in the blanks themselves. Jason also returned in 1997’sTurbo: A Power Rangers Movie, which marked the original Red Ranger’s final appearance in the Zordon Era.It was only in 2002’sPower Rangers Wild Forcethat we got to see Jason again, and it seemed like a lot had happened during those five years.

“Forever Red” Suggested That Jason Met Other Red Rangers After Zeo & Turbo

In “Forever Red,”Tommy Oliver and Androsare putting together a team of veteran Red Rangers to face the Machine Empire Remnants on the moon before General Venjix can reactivate Lord Zedd’s zord Serpentera. One of those veteran Red Rangers was Jason, who arrived just in time to join his peers. As the very first Red Ranger, Jason had the respect of all the heroes in this episode, to the point the other Red Rangers lined up to greet him. Curiously, after seeing the team Tommy assembled,Jason said“I recognize some of you guys… Some more than others.”

The problem is that Jason had never met any of these Red Rangers onscreen except for Tommy, whom he worked with inMMPR,Zeo, and theTurbomovie. Austin St. John was no longer on the show by the time Selwyn Ward’s T.J. arrived in Angel Grove and replaced Tommy as the Turbo Red Ranger, and while the original Zeo Gold Ranger appeared in “Countdown to Destruction,” Jason was nowhere to be seen inPower Rangers in Space. Therefore,it was unclear how Jason could recognize some of the other Red Rangers in “Forever Red.”

Leaving Jason’s Offscreen Adventures Up In The Air Made The Original Red Ranger Even Cooler

Jason’s Lost Years Added A Layer Of Mystery To The Character

Power Rangerswas often not too worried about continuity, although “Forever Red” did help make the series feel more interconnected after years of standalone seasons following the end of the Zordon Era. Still,Jason saying that he recognized some of the Red Rangers was too big of a reveal not to raise some questions.

In thePower Rangerscomics from BOOM! Studios, Jason, Trini, and Zack met Andros during the events ofMighty Morphin Power Rangersseason 2.

Power Rangers Wild Force (2002)

We can assume that Jason had been on his own since he left Angel Grove at the end ofZeo, but we don’t know how often he was doing superhero stuff. We also don’t know how Jason got his original Mighty Morphin powers back, one of many examples of previously lost powers returning inPower Rangers.

Power Rangers In Order: How To Watch Every Series Chronologically & By Release Date

From Mighty Morphin to Cosmic Fury, here is how to watch every Power Rangers TV show in order, both chronologically and by release date.

While these questions can be seen as inconsistencies or script conveniences, leaving Jason’s offscreen story up in the air was the right decision. Jason changed a lot betweenPower Rangersseason 2 andZeo, with the character now having a certain edge to him. The fact that he probably went through a few other adventures after theTurbomovie and got to learn about or even meet other Red Rangers offscreen adds a lot to Jason’s character and establishes that he continued to have a busy life even when was no longer an active Power Ranger.
