While many of themost useful smart home devicesoffer in-depth integration with platforms like Alexa and Google Home, not every gadget needs millions of bells, whistles, and weird features to level up your life with smart technology. Voice assistant support and Wi-Fi connectivity can add just enough smarts to the traditional coffee machine to significantly improve your morning beverage experience — by letting you start brewing some black gold right from your bed, for starters. Sure, you could always hook a simple, on-off drip coffee machine up to one of thelatest, greatest smart plugs, but one of these smart coffee makers can add next-level control and notifications.

The top smart coffee makers actually worth buying

Versatile brewing on top of a large capacity

The Hamilton Beach FlewBrew Trio is a lot like a typical coffee maker, but with a wireless chip and Alexa support built in. It won’t blow your mind with advanced features, but it will make a solid cup or pot without much input. It’s a good choice if sometimes you’re in a hurry, and other times you want to sit with a nice Americano.

As long as you remember to fill the water reservoir at night, the FlexBrew Trio can have anywhere from a cup to an entire pot ready when you wake up. The Trio’s name comes from its ability to work with a single serving worth of grounds, an entire pot, or a pod if you’re all about convenience. One-cup brewing is especially nice because it takes just a couple of minutes to prepare your custom-sized dose at the strength of your choosing. Actually, it can brew up to seven straight single servings before it needs attention, so don’t get carried away.

It’s not the most well-equipped in terms of actual smart features, but its relative simplicity ticks most people’s boxes. If you want a capable piece of brewing machinery that also happens to accept voice commands and adhere to your scheduling, the FlexBrew Trio is a fine choice. We wouldn’t necessarily recommend using it merely for coffee pods, although it works quite well with reusable, refillable ones.

A full-featured super automatic in a compact, smart package

If you love coffee, need to streamline its delivery to your face every morning, and refuse to compromise, the wireless-enabled edition of the De’Longhi Dinamica Plus deserves your attention. A true super-automatic coffee maker, it can make you think you’re at a coffee shop when you don’t have experience as a barista and haven’t even gotten dressed yet.

Hamilton Beach Smart 12 Cup Coffee Maker

There aren’t many wireless super-automatics, and De’Longhi makes arguably the best. Its slim construction won’t take up much counter space, and it looks like it’s straight out of an espresso bar. But you won’t need much in the way of barista skills because it does the grinding, filling, pressurizing, and extracting for you. It connects to the Coffee Link app via Bluetooth for near-complete control, including profile customization that keeps your favorite brews a couple of taps away.

It’s notexactlyas intelligent as today’s most popular smart home gadgets because it doesn’t integrate with voice assistants or platforms by default. A little ingenuity goes a long way, though, and does anybody really want their coffee maker listening in on their morning conversations?

If crafting bespoke smart home contingencies isn’t your thing, it’s also reasonably smart out of the box. As long as you’re in Bluetooth range, you’re able to instruct it to have your caffeinated drink ready as soon as you wake up. The milk frother works even better than the ones on many non-smart coffee makers, especially for plant-based milks. For premium, legitimate espresso and just a hint of smart connectivity, this one’s hard to top.

Basic but smart

A render of the Bodum Chambord Programmable smart coffee machine

Make your mornings easier with the Hamilton Beach Smart coffee maker. This smart machine features a spacious water reservoir, allowing you to brew up to 12 cups before having to refill. With compatibility for Alexa and your smartphone, you can control it with voice commands. Although it lacks adjustable temperatures and settings, it offers great value for the price and comes from a trusted brand.

The Hamilton Beach Smart coffee maker has one of the largest water reservoirs, allowing you to make up to 12 cups before requiring a refill. Setting up is easy, and you can enjoy your favorite cup of coffee within minutes. It’s a smart coffee maker, so it’s compatible with Alexa and your smartphone and can accept voice commands.

Just keep in mind that it ONLY works with Alexa and not Google Assistant like some of the other smart coffee makers. The Hamilton coffee maker is more of a straightforward smart machine, missing some adjustable temperatures and settings, but it is the best value for the price, and you’re getting a well-known, loved brand.

A professional barista at your Wi-Fi-enabled service

The Terra Kaffe TK-02 fills an important niche for the coffee lover who demands luxury. Its self-contained brewing process removes most of the hassle, and its in-depth app control ensures you get your coffee just the way you like it. It even monitors your long-term habits, so you’ll have no problem convincing yourself you could use another cup.

This one’s a little different from the rest. First, it costs well over $1,000 and hardly looks like what you’d expect from an espresso machine. Rather than purely simplifying your morning beverage routine, it’s meant to deepen your relationship with the sacred bean by providing access to countless recipes, monitoring your brewing habits, and ensuring you know when and how it needs maintenance.

Espressos, lattes, even simple Americanos, the TK-02 can do it all. A legitimate super-automatic, it lets you customize ground size, temperature, and strength for the perfect drink every time. The milk frother works great, and the whole appliance adds an almost sci-fi-like luxury to the right kitchen. Granted, it’s loud, expensive, and not incredibly efficient with its water usage, but those are small tradeoffs for having a digital barista wake you up every morning.

Classic moka pot coffee, with an electric, connected twist

The evolution of a classic, the Chambord Electric Programmable delivers no-nonsense moka pot coffee every morning. It’s faster, cleaner, and more streamlined than a stovetop system, and produces a deliciously bitter dose that balances strength and drinkability in ways that neither drip coffee nor espresso can.

Somewhere on the road, from drip coffee to espresso, lies the iconic moka pot. Beloved in households across Europe, it consists of a carafe screwed onto a boiler, with a compartment for lightly packed coffee grounds in the middle. Typically, you’ll put a metal moka pot on a stove to heat the water, which turns to steam, forces its way through the grounds, and waits in the pitcher after extracting all the good stuff.

The best gadget I bought in 2024 wasn’t smart at all

Not everything needs a Wi-Fi connection

The Bodum Chambord adds an electric element to the mix and offers Wi-Fi control for ordering your morning joe from bed. This coffee machine, in itself, also stands somewhere between smart and dump appliances. If you’re keen on trying out a smart coffee maker, but aren’t sure you’ll stick with automation long-term, give it a look. Its straightforward programmable timer provides just enough planning capability to satisfy a lot of people, and the app is really just icing on the cake.

Small and smart

Looking for a sleek and compact coffee maker that matches your kitchen or office decor? The Café Smart Drip offers three color options and customizable brewing options, including four brewing modes. Plus, it’s compatible with Alexa and Google Home for easy voice control.

The Café Smart Drip is compact and sleek and looks amazing in any kitchen or office setting. With three color options, you can match your smart coffee maker with the rest of your appliances. Although it has a smaller 10-cup reservoir, it offers more customizability than the Hamilton Beach. For instance, you can choose to brew a single cup, the whole pot, or anything in between. Also, there are four brewing modes: gold, light, medium, and bold.

All of these settings can be saved in the SmartHQ app for future use, and you’re able to use AutoBrew to have the perfect cup ready first thing in the morning. The coffee maker is compatible with Alexa and Google Home and can use Voice-to-Brew controls for easy hands-free use. The only stipulation here is the price and the lesser-known brand. Still, it’s a great alternative.

Interchangeable color plates

The Smarter iCoffee Remote Brew is a hidden gem in the coffee machine world. It may not be as well-known as other brands, but it definitely holds its own against the competition. With its built-in burr grinder and adjustable grind size, you can customize your coffee just the way you like it.

The Smarter iCoffee Remote Brew is another lesser-known brand but still holds up among its competitors. Like the Atomi Smart machine, this one also comes with a built-in heavy-duty burr grinder with adjustable grind size. Though it doesn’t have the option to determine how much to brew at one time, the amount you grind will determine the outcome of the brew size.

This remote brewer is compatible with more smart integrations than any other, including Amazon Echo and Alexa, Google Assistant, and Nest, and much more with the IFTTT protocol. You can program everything you need directly in the Smarter app and even order your favorite coffee and tea from the app to have it delivered right to your door. To top it off, this smart coffee machine comes with three interchangeable color plates to match the rest of your kitchen or office.

Smart, stylish, and versatile

Brew each cup of coffee just the way you like with Instant’s Solo single-serve smart coffee machine. It has adjustable brewing strengths that you can select based on your preference, features a fairly large reservoir that can brew up to four (10 oz) cups of coffee, and brews regular coffee grounds or K-Cups.

The Instant Solo is an efficient coffee maker that only takes 90 seconds to brew your favorite cup of coffee. It employs the pre-infusion brewing technique to ensure the coffee grounds are properly soaked in water for a richer taste. In terms of taste, the coffee maker has a bold and standard brewing mode that you can use depending on how strong you want your coffee.

Best of all, it comes with a reusable pod that allows you to brew different sizes of grounds, so you can choose coarse, medium-coarse, or fine coffee grounds to achieve the desired taste. Alternatively, you can load K-Cups onto the coffee maker for a faster and mess-free brewing experience. With the 40-ounce water reservoir in place, you can brew five 8-ounce, four 10-ounce, or three 12-ounce cups of coffee with a single refill.

The brew sizes are preset, so you only need to choose the preferred option from the Instant Brands app. To link the coffee maker to your Wi-Fi network, simply press the Wi-Fi button for instant pairing. But as smart as this model is, you’re able to also use the touch panel if you prefer the manual route.

Smart coffee makers to start your day

An important thing to keep in mind if you’re on the hunt for a voice-controlled, Wi-Fi-enabled, app-assisted coffee maker is that not all “smart” machines are the same. Some brands claim their machines are smart but not at all Bluetooth or Wi-Fi enabled. Instead, they can only read the barcodes of coffee pods and brew to specifications. However, this isn’t the full smart advantage we want.

Hamilton Beach makes the two most reliable options, with the FlexBrew Trio getting the Best Overall award due to its versatility. The company’s standard Smart Coffee maker isn’t far behind, though. Like most smart coffee pots, they don’t add much beyond voice control and schedule programming, but that’s all most people want out of these appliances. The Bodum Chambord Electric Programmable is even more straightforward and simple to use.

My 4 favorite new Google Home features

This Fall had some great ones

If you want truly fantastic coffee and are willing to invest, the De’Longhi Dinamica Plus Connected can’t be beaten. It’s actually just a great all-around super-automatic, and there’s an app to go along with it. Similarly, the Terra Kaffe TK-02 adds considerable control and assistance. Still, in the form of drink recipes and long-term coffee intake monitoring, instead of the automated smart control you’d expect from something like a coffee delivery robot. On the plus side, that means they’ll rarely suffer from unfixable problems, and are relativelyeasy to troubleshoot, for a smart device.

Ultimately, the biggest drawback to any smart coffee maker is that you still need to get out of bed, grab the coffee, and then (probably) get ready for the day. But one of these can help. As a rule, they rarely offer extremely in-depth smart platform features, but just a bit of know-how can help you integrate one with Google Home, for example, without a ton of headaches. You might also consider anovel smart mugto make sure your java stays at optimum temperature, no matter how fast you sip.

What do you love about Google Home?

It took me a long time to be sold on the virtues of a smart home. Perhaps I’m old-fashioned, but I don’t mind doing most things manually, like changing my thermostat temperature. Then I installed a Nest Thermostat, and the ability to adjust and schedule my heating and cooling on the fly is something I no longer wish to live without. And that’s just my thermostat. I’ve since added a front door camera, and am about to install a floodlight camera for my backyard. This way I can keep an eye on packages as they arrive, and my pups in the back yard, all while I work. In other words, Google Home brings a lot of convenience to my life, and while the app isn’t perfect, the amount of control I have over my home from the comfort of my phone can’t be undersold. So that’s why I’m a fan. But what about you?

Why do you choose to use Google Home, and what is the one big benefit that makes the expenditure on smart home equipment worth it for you?
