Common Disney+ Error Codes and How to Fix Them

There are few things as irritating as when you plan to watch the latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or a Star Wars TV show and can’t because Disney+ isn’t working.

All streaming services have their faults, and while you might panic when faced with a seemingly nonsensical error code, each one corresponds to a specific problem—and that means they can be fixed too.

Here are some of the most common Disney+ error codes and how you can solve each problem.

Not all content is available for all users. You might not think that’s an issue, but, for instance, theNetflix Marvel shows rolled outto different regions at different times. Similarly, the Spider-Man and X-Men movies were typically added to the UK’s Disney+ before America’s version of the service.

In most situations, that’s a rights issue, so a streaming service in one location has exclusivity on particular content, meaning Disney+ isn’t allowed to stream it in a set region until that lapses. And that’s the issue here. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to do anything to watch that content.

Original content should all be uploaded at the same time, so that shouldn’t be a concern here. So what if you’re still getting one of these error codes?

You might be using a VPN. These are great for security and privacy, and oftenlets you unlock geo-restricted material. Streaming services are wise to this, though, and so, if Disney+ recognizes a VPN connection, you might see any of these three error codes.

Sadly, you’ll have to disconnect your VPN in order to watch what you want to.

How to Fix Disney+ Error Code 22

Error code 22 means this content is blocked by Kids Mode. TV shows and movie listings are edited based on age ratings, so a youngsterusing their Kids’ Profilewon’t be able to view anything rated R.

If you’re the child in question, talk to your parents. They may grant you access if they deem it necessary. Or they might refuse, and you’ll have to find something else to watch.

If you’ve used another profile by mistake, you can exit it (potentially after answering a security question) and use the one you meant to; or you can enter the pre-determined four-digit PIN to watch that content.

When you experience this error, you should see a message that reads:

“We’re sorry, but we cannot play the video you requested. Please try again.”

Streaming is wonderful, but it does rely on having an internet connection. That’s one of the likeliest problems here: you have no internet. That could be a problem with your router, with the connection between the TV and your router, or your internet might be down anyway.

First, check if you still have internet on another device. check that your smartphone isn’t connecting solely using data, i.e. it doesn’t read “4G”, “5G”, or a variation on your screen. If so, it could mean you have a wider issue going online. If there’s nothing wrong with your router, try reconnecting your smart TV.

If nothing works, you can try contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP). You might simply have to wait until you’re connected to the internet again.

However, Error 43 can also mean that the title added to your playlist has since been removed from Disney+. Sadly, there’s nothing you can do about that, although logging in and out, or uninstalling then reinstalling the app should wipe it from your playlist.

How to Fix Disney+ Error Code 38

This is a kooky error code, but also self-explanatory, thanks to this message:

“We’re sorry, but we cannot sync the video you requested to your time settings. Double check the time settings on your clock and try again.”

Yes, Disney+ needs to know the correct time!

The date and time of your device needs to be correct in order for the platform stream content. Your device’s Operating System (OS) might have updated, there could be a glitch, or someone accidentally tampered with it. Heck, even a power cut could cause your TV’s date to reset.

Whatever caused it, fix this error by correcting the date and time on your OS. Once that’s done, you should be able to play content again.

How to Fix Disney+ Error Codes 40, 42, and 44

There are slight variations of the same error here, but all will show a message like:

“We’re sorry; we’re having trouble connecting you to the service. Please check to see that you are still connected to the Internet and try again.”

It’s just as it says: the issue is with connecting to the Disney servers.

As above, check you are still connected to the internet. If you have internet access, the problem might be the speed of your connection. Most devices let you check your signal strength. Chances are, if you’ve not had problems with signal strength on a non-portable device, i.e. your TV, before now, that’s unlikely to be the cause of this error. But if you’re on an iPad or similar, you need to get closer to your Wi-Fi source.

You can also try signing out and back in, and restarting your device entirely.

Nonetheless, seeing any of these errors might not be your problem; Disney’s servers could be overloaded.Check the Downdetector, which lets you know when a service is unavailable. That’s useful for lots of error codes, including the annoyingly vague error 83. If that’s the case, you’ve no option but to wait for Disney to resolve it.

How to Fix Disney+ Error Code 41

Error code 41 will appear when there’sa problem playing a specific video, but mostly when the user has tried viewing it using an out-of-date link. That’s not your fault: it’s often about licensing.

You might see this code when Disney+ has lost the rights to show a particular movie or TV show. This could be a temporary thing (for instance, if negotiations are taking place), or more permanent. In both cases, you won’t be able to watch that content just yet. This could also be because the Disney servers are overloaded; wait a little while then try again.

However, it could also be a simple glitch, so try playing another video first. If something else plays, there’s likely an issue with the previous material. You can always try logging out and then back in, or restarting the device entirely.

If nothing else works, you’ll have to be patient and wait for the title to either disappear completely (meaning the rights reverted elsewhere) or for it to be viewable again.

Still Having Problems With Disney+?

If you’re still having issues with Disney+, you should try basic troubleshooting techniques, i.e. check on your internet connection, restart the app, and sign out and back in—or even uninstall and reinstall. Ultimately, you can also contact Disney+ or your ISP directly if problems persist.

The thing is, all streaming platforms have occasional issues. That’s the price you pay for having all that content at your fingertips but not actually physically owning it…
