Summary
Deadpool & Wolverine’s ending is suitably action-packed, bringing a lot of questions about the fate of the multiverse, the film’s villains, and the future of the MCU. After years of anticipation, the next installment in both theFoxX-Menmoviesand the Marvel Cinematic Universe is here. As expected, the film combines both franchises withDeadpool & Wolverine’s castcomprising familiar faces from across Marvel’s illustrious cinematic past. InDeadpool & Wolverine, the titular duo tentatively team up to stop the nefarious plans of Cassandra Nova while protecting the very fabric of the Marvel multiverse.
Naturally, this story comes with a lot of twists and turns. The multiversal cameos many expect from a movie of this size are included in full force, with the anticipation of returning heroes drivingDeadpool & Wolverine’s box officehopes. That said, the cameos and surprises never overtake the core story at the center of the movie: Deadpool’s desire to save his universe and Wolverine’s need for redemption.By the time ofDeadpool & Wolverine’s ending, this story comes to a close in a way that raises several questionsfor the future of Marvel in film.

How Deadpool And Wolverine Stop Cassandra Nova’s Attempt To Destroy The Multiverse
As the final act ofDeadpool & Wolverinedescends, the goal becomes clear;Cassandra Nova is attempting to use a device from the TVA called the Time Ripper to destroy every branch of the multiverse, leaving only the Void remaining as her own kingdom to rule. Naturally, Deadpool and Wolverine try to stop her.Deadpool& Wolverine’s Mr. Paradoxexplains to the duo that the Time Ripper works by combining matter and anti-matter, and the only way to destroy the machine is by harnessing both forms of power simultaneously, redirecting them from the machine.
Their combined strength sees Deadpool and Wolverine survive the attempt as the Time Ripper is destroyed, saving the entire multiverse…

After fighting through the Deadpool Corps, Deadpool and Wolverine fight over who is going to sustain the blast of matter and anti-matter, as Mr. Paradox explained it will disintegrate whoever does. Deadpool wins out via deception and begins harnessing the power to stop the Time Ripper and Cassandra. However, he cannot reach both sides of the power source, prompting Wolverine to jump in as both heroes take the blast together. Their combined strength sees Deadpool and Wolverine survive the attempt as the Time Ripper is destroyed, saving the entire multiverse.
Is Cassandra Nova Dead?
One of the primary questions stemming out ofDeadpool & Wolverine’s ending is what became of Cassandra Nova. While the movie does not give a definitive answer in its dialogue, it is safe to say Cassandra Nova perishes as the Time Ripper is destroyed. As Deadpool and Wolverine destroy the machine, Cassandra is shown atomizing, ending her threat to the multiverse. Although a variant of Cassandra Nova could make an appearance in anupcoming MCU movie, the version shown inDeadpool & Wolverineis no more.
What Happens To Mr. Paradox
InDeadpool & Wolverine, Mr. Paradox is a secondary villain. He has an unstable deal with Cassandra Nova that eventually sees the two come at odds, with his goal being to control the TVA and return it to the more brutal, prune-happy organization it was under He Who Remains. It is revealed that his group of TVA agents is being kept secret from his superiors, that being Hunter B-15 fromLoki. However, the powering up of the Time Ripper alerts B-15 to Paradox’s plans.Deadpool & Wolverineends with Paradox being arrested by B-15 as his group is disbanded.
Could Loki Have Stopped The Destruction Of The Multiverse?
Despite the appearance of Hunter B-15 inDeadpool & Wolverine, Loki was not mentioned. As is known thanks toLokiseason 2’s ending, the multiverse is now formed as anYggdrasil tree with Lokiat its center. Loki is responsible for holding the fabric of the multiverse together, begging the question of whether he could have intervened and stopped Cassandra’s potential destruction of the timelines.
Given what is known ofLokiseason 2’s finale, this is unlikely. Loki is not protecting the multiverse, but instead holding it together. If he is not there to grasp the timelines, the multiverse dies, meaning he cannot leave to intervene. As such, Loki must simply watch and trust that the TVA and other heroes will stop multiversal threats.

Loki Season 2 Ending Explained
Loki season 2’s finale is massive for the MCU as well as for the God of Mischief who’s found his ultimate glorious purpose while saving the TVA.
What Happens To Deadpool
As alluded to, Deadpool survives the destruction of the Time Ripper inDeadpool & Wolverine’s ending. The epilogue of the film sees him encounter characters like Hunter B-15, giving hints about the future of the Multiverse Saga. Collectively, Deadpool and Wolverine served as the so-called Anchor Beings of theFoxX-Mentimeline. Anchor Beings are individuals who, if removed from their timelines, cause the destruction of their universe. Deadpool, therefore, returned to Earth-10005 to live peacefully.
Do Deadpool And Vanessa Get Back Together?
The driving force of Deadpool’s journey inDeadpool & Wolverineis his relationship with Vanessa. The same can be said for the first two installments in theDeadpoolfranchise, with the third movie revolving around Deadpool trying to save his universe and thus, Vanessa. This comes after the two break-up years earlier due to Wade’s lack of motivation and drive to push himself. InDeadpool & Wolverine’s endingWade tells Vanessa that he still has feelings for her, and the two are shown holding hands, hinting that they will be back together in future movies.
What’s Deadpool’s Higher Purpose?
As alluded to by the exploration of Wade’s relationship with Vanessa,Deadpool & Wolverinesurrounds the former hero trying to find his purpose. He is often told that he is meaningless and lives for nothing bigger than himself, explaining his faith in Wolverine as someone who is accustomed to doing so. Throughout the film, however, Deadpool is told by Paradox and others that he has a higher purpose. This could be seen as him saving his timeline inDeadpool & Wolverine’s ending but is more likely a set-up for his potential role as an Avenger inAvengers 5’s upcoming storyandAvengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Secret Wars: Release Date, Plot Details & Everything We Know
The culmination of phases 4, 5, and 6 of the MCU will be in Avengers: Secret Wars. Here’s everything to know about the sixth Avengers movie.
What About Thor!?
A hilarious running gag throughoutDeadpool & Wolverineinvolves none other than Thor. When Deadpool first enters the TVA, he is accidentally shown what is seemingly a moment in Deadpool’s future. This moment sees Deadpool lying injured in Thor’s arms as the latter cries for him, akin to Loki’s fake death scene inThor: The Dark World. Whether Deadpool and Thor’s touching moment ever comes to pass remains to be seen, butDeadpool & Wolverine’s ending certainly leaves it off as a potentially humorous callback for future movies to capitalize on.
What Happens To Wolverine
As is the case with his ally, Wolverine survives the Time Ripper’s explosion. Afterward, Logan is shown somewhat at a loss, resigning to retire from hero work and living a peaceful life. This comes after Wolverine puts his guilt and grief over the death of his universe’s X-Men behind him, completing his character arc inDeadpool & Wolverine’s ending. That said, some interesting moments in Wolverine’s epilogue hint at future stories for him in the world of the Marvel multiverse.
Did Wolverine & X-23 Just Permanently Switch Universes?
After Logan attempts to leave inDeadpool & Wolverine’s ending, Wade invites him for food and introduces Wolverine to Blind Al. In the final scene of the movie, Logan and X-23 are shown bonding with Deadpool, Al, Vanessa, and the other characters fromDeadpoolandDeadpool 2.This seemingly implies thatLogan and X-23 have permanently switched to Earth-10005. With the latter being pruned and the former not having much of a meaning in his original timeline, the TVA has allowed them to live with Deadpool in the FoxX-Menuniverse.
Will Hugh Jackman Return As Wolverine?
WithDeadpool & Wolverine’s ending confirming Logan’s survival on Earth-10005, the burning question now is whether Hugh Jackman will return once more as the character. Various meta jokes are made throughoutDeadpool& Wolverine, specifically a recurring gag that Jackman will be playing Wolverine until he is 90 years old. Although this is a way for the film to poke fun at superhero casting in general, it comes after a serious moment in which B-15 states Wolverine and Deadpool could be useful thanks to their timeline-saving antics, hinting that Jackman will return in the MCU’s future.
What Deadpool & Wolverine’s Ending Means For Avengers 5 & 6
Aside from the fates of the main characters,Deadpool & Wolverine’s ending raises questions about how the film will tie into the future of the MCU. Many expectedDeadpool & Wolverineto feed intoAvengers 5andAvengers: Secret Wars,a reality that now seems possible. Not only have Deadpool and Wolverine been recognized as potential allies by the TVA, but they have solidified their partnership and returned to Deadpool’s universe. Interestingly, this means that the FoxX-Menuniverse lives on.
Deadpool also has a connection with Happy Hogan after attempting to join the Avengers, making his potential future with the team more likely.
It was expected thatDeadpool & Wolverine’s ending would see one, or both, of the characters permanently switch to the MCU, but this was not the case. Instead, theX-Mentimeline remains intact, meaning the two titular heroes can return in the future. Not only that, but any character from the FoxX-Menfranchise could play a part in future MCU movies, leading to many possibilities forAvengers 5&6. As ofDeadpool & Wolverine’s ending, the multiverse has never had so many intriguing connections, promising a big future for Marvel’s Multiverse Saga.
