Summary
House of the Dragonstar Paddy Considine celebrates his King Viserys cameo in season 2, episode 6, with a new social media post. Based on George R. R. Martin’sFire & Blood, the hitGame of Thronesspinoff show returned for its sophomore outing last month, chronicling an escalating war between the Greens and the Blacks. Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen has spent much of the season so far at Harrenhal, experiencing a variety of spooky visions, andHouse of the Dragonseason 2 episode 6features a surprise appearance by Viserys, who died back in season 1.
In a recent post on Instagram,Considinecelebrates his brief return as Viserys inHouse of the Dragonseason 2, sharing a handful of behind-the-scenes images. Check out the post below:
The images include a picture of Considine in his makeup chair, the large King Viserys statue that appears in the episode, and Considine posing with Smith. The actor also includes a touching caption, which is included below:
It was brief, but I can’t tell you how happy I was to go back to [House of the Dragon] to see my old friends. I’ve really missed everyone. It was a chance to put the costume on one last time and say goodbye. I’ve honestly felt a little bereft not being a part of this show anymore. It gave me sense [sic] of purpose and responsibility I haven’t felt since.
To my cast mates, I miss you all. It’s amazing to watch your roles grow and to see you fly. Some literally. Hannah Ecclestone and Christian Goddard, my make up and costume, you are the best. Huge love to Ryan Condal (thanks for the knife…) I couldn’t fit that statue in my garden, but the art department surprised me with my own sculpt. I will treasure it. Along with the great memories.

What They Represent For Matt Smith’s Character
Though theHouse of the Dragonseason 2 reviewshave been glowing, Daemon’s tenure at Harrenhal is becoming a possible point of criticism. The character has now spent several episodes in the old castle, seeing various figures from his past with relatively little forward story momentum, at least relative to the events going on in the rest of Westeros. While these criticisms are certainly valid, there’s no denying that Daemon’s time at Harrenhal has been part of a deeper exploration of this highly flawed character.
Harrenhal has always been a location steeped in mystery and magic, and the location itself is undoubtedly why Daemon is losing time and seeing figures from his past. From a character perspective,these hallucinations are part of Daemon reckoning with his past decisions and mistakes. His vision of Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) sewing Jaehaerys' head back on, for example, is likely a result of his guilt at sendingBlood and Cheeseto murder a child, with Rhaenyra then taking the blame.

Daemon’s visions in House of the Dragon season 2, episodes 3 & 4 revealed some harsh truths about the Targaryen prince and teased major future events.
Viserys' return is also connected to Rhaenyra, asDaemon always felt betrayed that she was chosen as Viserys' successor and not him. Daemon’s feelings regarding Rhaenyra, in general, are very complicated, as he has always had great love for her, but resents that she was chosen as the heir to the Iron Throne. While it doesn’t sound like Considine’s Viserys will be appearing again inHouse of the Dragonseason 2, the character’s return is evidently part of a larger exploration of Daemon’s inner turmoil.
