While WhatsApp is excellent for messaging and staying in touch with everyone, managing numerous chats can quickly become chaotic. Fortunately, WhatsApp includes several useful features that help me stay on top of the chaos and keep my WhatsApp chats organized.
1Pinning Important Conversations
Like most people, I have a long list of chats on WhatsApp, but only a few are part of my daily interactions. To access these quickly, I have pinned those WhatsApp chats. This way, my important conversations always appear at the top of my list, regardless of how many new messages come in.
This ensures I never miss important updates from family, friends, or work-related groups.
I can easilypin a WhatsApp chaton my Android by selecting it and choosing thepin iconat the top. The same can be done on an iPhone by swiping right on the WhatsApp chat and selecting thePinoption.
2Archiving or Deleting Unnecessary Chats
Another thing I do is scan through my WhatsApp chat list every week and delete any old or unnecessary conversations. This routine helps me eliminate distractions and makes it easier to focus on relevant chats.
Deleting chats on WhatsAppis as simple as long-pressing them and selecting theDelete Chatoption (on iPhone) or tapping thetrash iconat the top (on Android).
When I have important chats with messages that I might need later, I use the archive option. The feature is especially useful for hiding chats and groups that I don’t need to see every day or actively participate in. It keeps unimportant conversations out of sight, but I can still access them whenever I need to.
3Using Chat Filters
Using chat filters allows me to sort through my messages based on different criteria. By default, it’s set to “All,” showing all the conversations. However, tapping on “Unread” allows me to view all unread messages in one place, ensuring I don’t miss any important messages. Another useful filter is “Groups,” which only shows messages from WhatsApp groups that I am part of.
There’s also a “Favorites” tab where I can add my key chats and groups. I use it the most since the limitation of pinning up to three chats is not enough for me. With the “Favorites” tab, I can create a list of people and groups I interact with daily. This way, I can easily access my priority conversations without having to sift through the entire chat list.
4Starring Messages to Find Them Quickly
As someone who uses WhatsApp for both work and personal purposes, I receive dozens of messages every day, making it challenging to find important ones quickly. While WhatsApp’s search feature is helpful, it requires me to recall specific words or phrases. To avoid this, I use WhatsApp’s starred messages feature to bookmark important messages.
Bookmarking a message on WhatsApp only requires long pressing it and tapping theStaricon. I can then view all the starred messages in a chat by opening the contact or group profile and selecting theStarred messagesoption. If there are several starred messages, I can even search through them.
5Locking Sensitive Chats
Lastly, Iuse WhatsApp’s Chat Lock featureto safeguard important or sensitive conversations from prying eyes. This handy feature allows me to move critical chats into a secure, locked inbox, keeping them separate from the main view. The best part is that media content from these locked chats does not appear in my phone’s gallery, ensuring an extra layer of privacy.
The above-listed features not only keep my WhatsApp chats organized but also enhance my productivity. You too can take advantage of these built-in features to better manage your WhatsApp conversations.
