You may not like everything you see on Reddit. Thankfully, you can filter out unwanted content to elevate your Reddit experience. Here are some tips I’ve used to prevent content I don’t want to see popping up in my feed.

1Turn Off Recommendations in Your Feed

Reddit, like other social media platforms, uses recommendation algorithms to display content it thinks you might like. While there are advantages toalgorithmic social media feeds, they also have downsides. One of them is that you may despise whatever content is recommended.

Of course, there areways to improve your Reddit recommendations, but if you’re determined to control what you see, you should turn off recommendations in your feed.

2Mute Unwanted Subreddits

Another great tip that has helped me filter out unwanted content on Reddit is muting unwanted subreddits. We included muting subreddits as one of thebest Reddit featuresbecause the platform is notorious for recommending select subreddits in your home feed even if you’re no longer interested in them.

This has happened several times when I leave a subreddit and the platform still recommends it in my home feed.

Here’s how you can mute unwanted subreddits:

When you mute a subreddit, you will no longer see its posts in your feeds and recommendations. Unless you search for it, it will not appear on your account.

3Disable NSFW Content

If NSFW content is showing up on your account, you can block it. Reddit allows you to filter it out by using a simple toggle. There are different ways to block NSFW content on Reddit, depending on the platform you use to access the social media site.

On iOS, you’re able to block NSFW content by opening theSettingsapp, selectingRedditfrom your apps, and toggling offShow NSFW Contenton the next page. Additionally, toggle onBlur NSFW Imagesif disabled.

On Android, you can achieve the same by following these steps:

If you’re using Reddit via the website, click your profile icon at the top right, selectSettings > Preferences,and toggle offShow Mature Content. After blocking NSFW content, Reddit will automatically blur this content if you come across it in your feed or any subreddit.

4Hide Individual Reddit Posts

It’s hard to get social media platforms to display some types of content and hide others, and the same applies to Reddit. Some bad apples might still slip through the filter. One last resort is to hide posts you don’t want to see.

You can do this by following these steps:

Hiding an individual post means it won’t be shown to you again. This, interestingly, also applies to your posts as well.
