A new crafting item added to theShadow Of The ErdtreeDLC forElden Ringare Swollen Grapes, which you can get and use to create tools to help your character. Cultivated through the madness of the Frenzied Flame, these items are rare in the Land of Shadow. You’ll have to defeat seemingly invulnerable enemies or explore the darkest reaches of the DLC’s new map to obtain Swollen Grapes.
Unlike thecool new weapons inShadow Of The Erdtree, Swollen Grapes help set up effects closer to the various spells added to the DLC. On their own, the Grapes are only worth 100 Runes and do not cause any sort of buff like a consumable.Swollen Grapes are not like aShabriri Grape, which are used as Key Items to be given to certain NPC characters during their questline.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - How To Reach Abyssal Woods
Players can find the secret area of Abyssal Woods by navigating through the Shadow Keep’s eastern areas in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree.
How To Get Swollen Grapes
Defeat Abyssal Woods Enemies Or Explore Midra’s Manse
The easiest way to get aSwollen GrapeinElden Ringis toexplore the Midra’s Manse area at the end of the Abyssal Woods. The Abyssal Woods is a hidden part of the Land of Shadow that you can only access by traveling below the Shadow Keep to the DLC map’s northeast. It would be best if you took several ladders down from the fortress to the water it stands in, then ride inside a coffin down a waterfall toward new landscapes.
Traveling within the Abyssal Woods will eventually lead you to Midra’s Manse, a large mansion hostingMidra, Lord of Frenzied Flame inElden Ring. This is an optional boss whose surrounding building contains three different Swollen Grapes for you to collect as loot. When you enter the Manse, turn right and search for a corpse with an itemto find your first instance of this crafting material.

The dining room area within the Manse has two more Swollen Grapes, which you can find right below the chimney, which almost seems blocked by the pile of ashes in the area.
Another source of Swollen Grapes comes from the Aging Untouchable enemies roaming around foggy sections of the Abyssal Woods. When first traveling to the Manse, you may have avoided those creatures who would appear human-like if it wasn’t for the massive growth of eyes on their heads. Only six of these enemies exist in the DLC, making them rare encounters inShadow Of The Erdtree.

At first, it may seem like these creatures are unkillable, as the game encourages you to avoid Untouchables by sneaking around the golden grass in their hunting zones. However, youcan kill an Aging Untouchable by parrying its melee attackswhen they become aggravated. Doing this successfully will cause one to drop a Swollen Grape if you are careful enough to kill one before it kills you.
How To Use Swollen Grapes
Craft An Item For Combat
When you get Swollen Grapes, you canturn them into aSurging Frenzied Flame, a tool inElden Ringthat acts like a Spiritgrave Stone. These types of itemscan be placed on the ground to cast some sort of magic from its position. When a Surging Frenzied Flame is placed on the ground, it casts a spell similar to Midra’s fire attacks, spewing chaotic fire in many directions to strike at your enemies.
Like any spell orAsh of War inElden Ring, placing a Spiritgrave Stone onto the ground costs FP, a resource whose quantity is determined by your character’s Mind stat.

Surging Frenzied Flames can deal with crowds of enemiestrying to pursue your character in tight spaces. The chaotic nature of the Frenzied Flame will cause fire from the item to spew in many different directions, likely striking anyone who gets too close. Thankfully, you won’t be damaged by the flames caused by this item, so take the opportunity it creates to heal, retreat, or attack more.
Another reason why you may want to craftSurging Frenzied Flames is because they support character builds that normally would be incapable of using Frenzied Flame magic. Some magic, including thenew spell inShadow Of The Erdtree, tied to the Frenzied Flame, is usually only worthwhile to Faith builds. With Surging Flame items, anyone can utilize the yellow flame that burns without distinction.

You will likely only have a limited number of Surging Flames in your character’s inventory, but remember that Aging Untouchable enemies respawn in the Abyssal Woods. you’re able to always return to a Site of Grace near them to get more Swollen Grapes and use them to make additional strong tools inElden Ring’sShadow Of The ErdtreeDLC.
