While Nanoleaf’s Shapes (see our review) and Elements light panels should “just work,” there may be times when you need to reset them to restore them to their former glory. If you have experienced frequent connectivity issues or trouble integrating your light panels with ecosystems—likeApple’s HomeKit—a reset might be the fix.

Likewise, your panels will also need a reset if you recently changed your Wi-Fi router or credentials. And if you link your Nanoleaf Panels to an account, you’ll need to reset them before selling or giving them away.

Other potential issues include the Nanoleaf app failing to discover your panels during setup or the controller becoming unresponsive due to a hardware bug. Whatever the problem is, there are two reset options available to you, which we’ll get into later.

What a Reset Won’t Fix

Before we get into your reset options, there are a few issues that a reset won’t fix. First, a reset will not fix problems pairing your panels if they are not on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone or tablet.

Second, a reset will not correct alignment issues with the Shapes connectors on your panels or the Controller. If your panels connect to your Wi-Fi network as usual, but you see an issue where some are not illuminating, a reset won’t help.

Along the same lines, a reset won’t fix hardware issues like a defective light panel. Or, if your Shapes Controller suddenly stops working, you can check to see if it is a part of theVoluntary Shapes Controller Replacement Program, as you might be eligible for a free replacement.

Nanoleaf Shapes and Elements Light Panels: Reset Options

As previously mentioned, you have a couple of options when it comes to resetting your Nanoleaf Shapes or Elements Light Panels. Depending on your needs, you can choose to perform a soft or a hard reset.

While both reset methods are similar in how you perform them, only one retains your scenes and schedules—a soft reset. This makes the soft reset perfect for times when you need to change things in your Wi-Fi network.

On the other hand, a hard reset will wipe everything and restore your Nanoleaf panels to their factory condition. One final thing to note is that both methods require you to remove your light panels from the Nanoleaf app, so you’ll need to go through the pairing process again.
