How to Stop Seeing Instagram Posts You Don’t Want Suggested

Instagram made significant changes to its algorithm in 2022, some of which annoyed users. It’s the reason why hundreds of thousands of creators signed an online petition to “make Instagram Instagram again” in July of the same year.

One of the main concerns raised was that Instagram shows a lot of content from people you don’t know or aren’t following. But there are ways around that.

In this article, we’ll show you four ways to remove Instagram post suggestions and avoid other posts you don’t want to see, so you don’t feel like you’re on the Explore page while casually browsing through your feed. Let’s get started.

1. Snooze Post Suggestions Temporarily

This is probably the most effective solution, albeit temporary. Instagram allows you to snooze post suggestions for 30 days. It gives you peace of mind for a short while.

Snoozing Instagram post suggestions is quick because you can do it in the feed immediately when you come across a post suggestion. Here’s how to get started:

Repeat this process when you start seeing post suggestions popping up again after the 30-day break is over.

This option doesn’t seem to appear for everyone, so could be in testing.

2. Hide Post Suggestions Related to a Specific Profile

Instagram shows you post suggestions based on what it thinks you might like. For instance, it shows you posts from accounts that are similar to the accounts you follow. If you’re puzzled as to why you’re seeing a particular post suggestion, you may find out where Instagram took its cue from. All you have to do is go to the post’sthree-dot menu > Why you’re seeing this post.

If you don’t want to see more suggestions from the creator of a post you’ve come across, you can let Instagram know.

You’ll have to do this for every creator whose posts you don’t want to get suggestions for in your feed. It’s a tedious process, but it’s worth putting in the effort to stop stumbling across posts from creators you don’t like.

3. Switch to Your “Favorites” or “Following” Feeds

In March 2022, Instagram introduced a solution for those who want to see content from their favorite creators and friends when they open the app—the Favorites and Following feeds.

All you need to do isswitch to the Favorites or Following feed on Instagramto see familiar faces and keep up on what your faves are up to. This makes it so that no matter how Instagram’s algorithm changes, you can always view posts from the people who matter.

Just note that you have to manually switch to your feed of choice every time you open the Instagram app.

4. Use Instagram for Web

Okay, we know you probably aren’t keen on using Instagram on your computer, but if there was ever a reason to do so, this is it. Instagram’s web platform doesn’t show you suggested posts, so the feed is quite straightforward.

It also allows you to catch up on your friends' and favorite creators' posts in a short amount of time. This eliminates the need to switch to the Favorites and Following feeds.

There are severalfeatures that make Instagram’s web platform different from the mobile app. Consider using it from time to time to take a break from all the clutter on Instagram’s mobile app.
