What Is Glaze?

Glazeis a tool that can help artists protect their work from AI art generators. The app works by applying subtle changes to the artwork—changes so minor that they’re barely noticeable to humans—that can easily confuse AI software. What these changes do is obscure the art style with the use of “cloaking” so that it can’t be replicated by AI art generators.

If you’re someone who wants to utilize AI art generators, there are variousways you can generate and use AI art ethically.

How to Use Glaze to Protect Your Art

For this guide, we are using a MacBook Pro with Intel Core processing.

Once you’ve downloaded Glaze and added the software to Applications, open the app by clicking on the icon in your Dock or searching for it in Launchpad. Immediately, Glaze will download a set of nine resources which can take several minutes; when all resources are downloaded, you may begin the process by following the steps below.

3. Select an Output

The output is where your image will be saved after it has run through Glaze, so verify you choose a location with access.

To start, clickOutputand select a folder or location to save the image to after the process is completed. Once you’ve selected the folder, clickOpen.

Next, if you’re only using one image, you can preview it by clickingPreviewto confirm you’ve chosen the right one—you cannot do this with more than one image. Otherwise,Previewand clickRun Glazeto start the process. Glaze will begin by analyzing the images and then rendering them.

The time it takes will depend on the number of images and quality options.

How to Know if Glaze Worked

After the rendering has completed, the new images will immediately be saved in the place you chose for Output. Upon first glance, you might not see any difference at all. Don’t panic! The changes that Glaze makes are very subtle, and you will likely struggle to see any difference initially.

However, upon closer inspection, you will notice stylistic adjustments in the details that make it near impossible for AI to copy your style.

Glaze is very power-hungry. Close all other applications while using Glaze for a quicker and more efficient process.
