WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Sweet Home season 3.
Summary
Sweet Homeseason 3 delivered the Cha Hyun-su and Lee Eun-hyeok scenes I had been waiting for since the first season ended in 2020. WhileSweet Homeis based on a webtoon, the show covered most of its source material already in the first season. As a result,Sweet Home’s seasons 2 and 3 were essentially an original storythat expanded the scope of the series and introduced several new characters. While many of them were great additions to the show,Sweet Homeseason 2 felt very different from the K-drama’s debut.
For example,Song Kang’s Cha Hyun-suonly appeared in a handful of episodes of season 2, a problem that was fixed in the third season. Another character missing from season 2 wasLee Do-hyun’s Eun-hyeok, although his absence made sense considering he was thought to be dead. Given thatSweet Homeseason 4is not happening, I was hoping that the final season was going to fix all of the problems with the second chapter and deliver a satisfying finale that honored the show’s original characters. Fortunately, this is what happened inSweet Home 3.

Sweet Home Season 3 Ending Explained: What Happens To Cha Hyun-su
Sweet Home season 3, episode 8 concluded the Netflix K-drama with an action-packed finale full of twists and bittersweet moments involving Hyun-su.
Song Kang & Lee Do-hyun Finally Reunited In Sweet Home
Hyun-su and Eun-hyeok had a lot of moments together inSweet Homeseason 3, from intense fights to emotional dialogues and everything in between. This was a massive improvement from season 2, which missed many of the interactions that made the horrorK-drama starring Song Kangso interesting in the first place. The dynamic between Hyun-su and Eun-hyeok set the tone forSweet Homeseason 1, particularly after the rest of the Green Home residents learned that Hyun-su was infected. Eun-hyeok was a natural leader, whereas Hyun-su was the wild card.
The fight between Hyun-su and Eun-hyeok was incredible, but having them working together again after so long was also very exciting.

Eun-hyeok, whose fate was finally revealed at the end of season 2 after much speculation following season 1’s finale, only returned in episode 4 of the third season. Still, I’m happyEun-hyeok had plenty of screen time in the second half ofSweet Home 3and was arguably the second most important characterin the final season after Hyun-su. Eun-hyeok was very different now that he was a neohuman, which made his return even more interesting. The fight between Hyun-su and Eun-hyeok was incredible, but seeing them working together again after so long was also very exciting.
Sweet Home Was A Different Show Without Song Kang & Lee Do-hyun Interacting
Sweet Home Season 2 Was Missing These Two Together
Sweet Homeseason 2 was my least favorite, as it failed to replicate what had made the series so interesting. Horror K-dramas featuring monsters and zombies are nothing new, which is whySweet Home’s biggest selling point was the characters and the relationships they built in the Green Home. One of these relationships was that of Hyun-su and Eun-hyeok, two very different people who had to learn how to work together. Without the Green Home dynamic,Sweet Home 2was virtually an entirely different show, not to mention all the new characters.

Of course, I was not expectingSweet Home 2to simply redo the plot of the first season. The series needed to do something different, especially because it had already covered most of the webtoon. Still, completely abandoning characters like Hyun-su, Eun-hyeok, and Yi-su, the last of which was killed off right at the start of season 2, was a very risky approach. That said,Sweet Home’s seasons 2 and 3 are better perceived as one big story. Many of the creative decisions from season 2 make a lot more sense having watched the final season.
Hyun-su & Eun-hyeok’s Interactions Were The Best Thing About Sweet Home Season 3
Sweet Home 3 Was Much Better Than Season 2
Sweet Home 3was a significant improvement from season 2, partially because of the great interactions between Hyun-su and Eun-hyeok. The fact that Eun-hyeok returned as an emotionless neohuman allowed the series to flip the dynamic between him andSong Kang’s character. Even their fight felt very satisfying and worked within the context of the story instead of being just fan service. Even thoughEun-hyeok was not exactly the same person from season 1, he was still that incredibly smart character who put logic in front of feelings. Likewise, Hyun-su was still the kindhearted, unpredictable special infectee.
Lee Do-hyun and Go Min-si starred together in 2021’sYouth of May.

Eun-hyeok and Eun-yu’s reunion was also great, even more so because it was quite bittersweet at first. Eun-yu had to remind Eun-hyeok of who he really was. Interestingly, at the end of season 3, it is implied that Eun-hyeok will now have to guide Eun-yu following her transformation.Sweet Homehad highs and lows, but I’m very happy that the show ended with Hyun-su, Eun-hyeok, and Eun-yu all living and sharing the same“home, sweet home.”
