Summary

Tracy may be embodying Mariam’s best qualities inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, but her choices in season 3, episode 8 also showed how different her approach is from that of the late McLusky matriarch.Mayor of Kingstownseason 3 cleared up its season 2 cliffhanger ending by revealing early into its premiere how Mariam had died from the wounds suffered in the shootout at her place between Milo’s goons and her sons, making the ordeal sadder as it was Kyle’s bullets that hit her. Mariam’s death thus leftMayor of Kingstownwithout one of the show’s most positive characters.

It took some time forMayor of Kingstownseason 3 to find Mariam’s heir, but eventually, Tracy’s return to work at the women’s prison meant she quickly noticed how some inmates’ rights were being trampled. Realizing so andnoticing how Cherry Maxwell had talked to Mariam before being charged for the rookie guard’s murder in season 1 offered Tracy the chance to do what Mariam would have, urging the warden to investigate the crimes COs or staff were committing against the prison’s inmates. However, CO Breen’s threats against Tracy in season 3, episode 7 swiftly changed her approach.

Mayor Of Kingstown Season 3 Honored Mariam In The Best Way Possible With This Character

Kyle’s promotion and Mike’s sting put them in situations forcing them to finally feel their grief after they avoided thinking about Mariam’s death.

Tracy Involving Mike As Mayor Was More Direct Than Mariam Ever Was

Mariam Only Asked Mike To Check On Inmates In Juvie

Mariam and Tracy were aware of the inherent violence of Mike’s role as mayor, making that one of the reasons why Mariam despised that Mike took over Mitch inMayor of Kingstownseason 1, not understanding why he would continue such a thankless job. This caused Mariam never to rely on Mike’s mayor contacts, only asking for Mike’s help with a minor who considered joining a gang for protection in juvie in season 2. However,Tracy seemingly didn’t oppose Mike’s mayor role like Mariam, and it was evident in her choice to ask Mike for help against Breens.

Despite knowing what asking Mike would have entailed, fearing for her life afterCO Breens threatened Tracy inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 7 convinced Tracy that contacting Mike was right. After all, Tracy refused to share her burden with Kyle inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 8, and going to the warden to advocate for Cherry originally put her in danger, making Mike one of the few who could help thanks to his unorthodox methods. This highlights howTracy, unlike Mariam, is willing to adopt unconventional measures to protect herself and those in a vulnerable position.

Tracy Understands Mike’s Role As Mayor Has A Place In Kingstown

Tracy’s choices inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 8 proved she understood that Mike provided options to those who were left without, and she became one of them once investigating how Cherry became pregnant prompted CO Breens to threaten her. Without Kingstown’s rampant corruption, Mike’s role would have no reason to exist, but given the abuse perpetrated by those in power and no working system in place to protect who is vulnerable,Mike’s mayor role can be the last workable resort for many.

While Mariam was right to believe that two wrongs didn’t make a right and just to live by those tenets, using the official channels to do justice condemned Tracy to danger and fear.Mike’sMayor of Kingstown’s missionwas originally to help those most vulnerable, whether dealing with the prison system or the gangs, and helping Tracy fell into that category.Mariam’s refusal to involve Mike was motivated by her distaste for his role and displeasure for Mike taking over Mitchbut without his intervention, Tracy could have been sentenced to a terrible fate inMayor of Kingstownseason 3.
