Summary

Shonen Jump’s newest cover just disrespectedMy Hero Academiain the same issue that contains its final chapter, and it is equally sad and disappointing at the same time. DespiteMy Hero Academiabeing one ofShonen Jump’s most popular manga series in the last decade, the cover of its upcoming issue fails to give it the focus it deserves for its grand finale, which has left fans quite discontent.

A post on X byMangaMoguraREhas revealed the cover page forShonen Jump’s upcoming issue #36 which features Luffy fromOne Pieceat the forefront yet again, pushing Deku out of the way. While this seems to be a lighthearted joke on Shueisha’s part, fans ofMy Hero Academiahave failed to see the humor in the cover.

Seeing as the upcoming issue will include thefinal chapter ofMy Hero Academia, many hoped that Deku would finally take the center spot on the cover instead of Luffy who has been dominatingShonen Jump’s covers and promotional material for decades.

My Hero Academia Loses the Spotlight to One Piece Yet Again

Shonen Jump’s Cover Fails To Give My Hero Academia’s Finale Due Attention

Seeing asMy Hero Academiadid receive a dedicated cover in last week’s issue, surely fans did not expect the series to take the cover yet again. Yet, it would have been nice to see Deku featured more prominently instead of being shoved aside now that the series has ended.

It should be noted that the “shove"could be an unintended result of the collage of characters' shots. However, there is no doubt thatOne Piecehas always been Shueisha’s golden child. My Hero Academiacertainly deserves much more credit for being able to rise to the heights that it has over the years, becoming one of the most influential manga in the past decade.

One Piece’s Creator Eiichiro Oda Has Shared a Wholesome Tribute to My Hero Academia

Having said that, despite what the controversial cover may suggest, there is absolutelyno bad blood betweenOne Piece’s creator, Eiichiro Oda, and Kohei Horikoshi. Oda has even paid a touching tribute toMy Hero Academiain the upcoming chapter ofOne Piece, which will feature a redrawn version of a 22-year-old piece of fan art of Captain Smoker by Horikoshi as the cover art for the chapter.

Oda, among many other prominent Jump creators, has also provided a comment onMy Hero Academia’s endingwhich reads:

So you can play ‘Pokemon Go’ all you want now, huh? Horikoshi, thank you for 10 years of hard work and serialization!

Though cheeky in nature, the comment is secretly rather wholesome and reflects the long-standing friendship between the two manga artists. Horikoshi has previously revealed that he started playing Pokemon Go again after Oda sent him a friend request on the game which encouraged him to go on walks more often and also helped with his weak knees.

One Pieceis also known to have had a great influence on Horikoshi and his art style, which makes the latestShonen Jump coverall the more of a letdown. Still,My Hero Academiahas an exciting finale ahead and, hopefully, it won’t be too long until fans see a new work by Kohei Horikoshi on the cover of Jump once again.

My Hero Academiais available from Manga Plus and Viz Media.
