When the topic turned to the future ofOne Piece, Clements revealed that “it’s going to be a while” before the new season premieres on Netflix because of the sheer amount of VFX-focused projects that are in the works. Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, and Taz Skylar as Sanji smile aboard the Going Merry in One Piece

This is a very VFX heavy year, so it’s going to be a while. We are a long time out. We film into December.

When Will One Piece Season 2 Premiere?

The Wait For The Netflix Show’s Return Could Be Extensive

Although theOne Piececastand crew are hard at work bringing the next episodes of the Netflix show to life, the wait has already been quite prolonged. Production on the new season began a full eight months after the premiere of the first, making it 20 months since the last episodes had been filmed. With such an extensive production and release process, the possible release date for season 2 is likely quite far down the road. Below, see a breakdown of the production schedules for the show’s seasons so far:

One Piece season 1

Emily Rudd, Inaki Godoy, and Mackenyu as Nami, Luffy D. Monkey, and Zoro in Netflix’s live-action One Piece

One Piece season 2

December 2024

TBD

Because there has only been one season of the show released previously, there is only so much that precedent is able to reveal about the possible release date for season 2. However, if it follows the schedule set by the freshman season, the long-awaited follow-up to theOne Pieceseason 1 endingcouldarrive as early as December 2025. However, Clements' revelation that it is a VFX-heavy year could mean that post-production delays will cause the new episodes of the show to take even longer than the previous season.

10 Live-Action One Piece Scenes We Can’t Wait To See In Season 2

Netflix’s live-action One Piece sets the stage for Luffy’s journey in season 1, but season 2 will feature even more exciting anime scenes.

Even though production on season 2 will likely be at least one full month shorter than season 1 from kickoff to wrap, these post-production delays could mean that the show won’t be ready to air until mid- to late 2026. It seems somewhat unlikely that it would be later, if they hit their target date of wrapping filming in December, though that remains to be seen. However, ultimately,One Pieceseason 2 could easily end up premiering three-and-a-half years or more after season 1.
