Battles against Team Rocket Leaders have changed in July 2024 forPokémon GO, including the team lineup for Arlo, one of the executives you can beat for great rewards. Arlo’s new team forces you to learn new counters against the three waves of strong Shadow Pokémon the Leader might use. Although there are some consistencies, you’ll have to form an adaptable strategy to have the best chance at victory.
To even fight Arlo, you need todefeat at least six Team Rocket Grunts, such as theKe Ke Ke Ke team inPokémon GO. Doing this should help youcollect enough Mysterious Parts to build a Rocket Radar, an item that helps you find a Leader of the criminal team. Arlo can be one of the leaders detected by this device for you to target and challenge in battle.

Every Pokémon Arlo uses is a Shadow variant of a normal pocket monster, meaning you have a chance to catch it once it has been defeated in battle. You can choose to purify a Shadow Pokémon when caught or keep its power in the same, dark form.
During the first wave, Arlo willalways use Shadow Cacneato start the fight. This Pokémon is weaker than the rest, but don’t underestimate this companion to the Team Rocket leader by trying to use a team member who doesn’t directly counter the prickly creature. The second and third wavesrandomly pick a Pokemon from a poolof three different choices each, making it difficult to predict what counter you’ll need.

How To Counter Arlo In Pokémon GO (July 2024)
Assemble A Team With The Right Types
The best Pokémon to counter all of Arlo’s options isTyranitar, theDark/Rock-typebeast whose attacks can be super-effective against more than half of the Team Rocket Leader’s options. Tyranitar’s Rock-type moves counter Salamence, Dragonite, and Charizard by exploring their Flying-type affiliation. Similarly, the Dark-type moves Tyranitar wields can take down Golurk and Hypno from the second wave with ease.
Another strategy for taking on Arlo is tobring a Charizard, especially one with aMega Evolution inPokémon GO. The strong Fire-type attacks from a Charizard can easily take down Arlo’s Scizor in the third wave, should that Pokémon appear. Even if it doesn’t, Charizard is still a fantastic choice to combat the starting Cacnea or Hypno since those two creatures won’t have as many options to fight back against the iconic starter evolution.

The final Pokémon you should bring to the Arlo fight isMamoswinedue to the Ice typing of this snowy mammoth. Dragonite, Salamence, and Cacnea all share a weakness to Mamoswine’s Ice-type moves, but the sheer bulk of this Pokemon is where it shines. Unless they are super effective, very few attacks can tear through Mamoswine’s defenses, despite the power of some moves withinPokémon GO.
Make surenot to use Mamoswine against Scizor or Charizard, as the Steel or Fire-type attacks from either of these Pokémon are among those with a powerful enough offense to take the mammoth down quickly.
Other Fire or Ice-types work very effectively against Arlo, as do many Ghost-type Pokémon, who can also counter some of the members on the Leader’s roster. Gengar, Weavile, and Chandelure are solid choices as alternative picks to bring into the battle if you have them in your collection.Legendary Pokémon are always a good choiceto use as well, due to their power level typically being much higher than regular Pokémon.
