Poppy Playtime Chapter 4has officially been released, continuing the player’s journey into the depths of Playtime Co.’s abandoned factory after receiving a mysterious letter telling them that the employees who vanished years ago are still in that factory. So far, the player, who’s put in the role of a former employee, hasn’t had a great return. At least in this chapter, there are a few more toys acting as allies to help guide the player for the majority of their time in the prison and experiment rooms.

Chapter 4starts with the player entering the prison beneath the Playcare area, which is where the Bigger Body procedures were performed and the toys were held if they weren’t fit for fulfilling roles in the factory. Some of what the player encounters in this area is to be expected, considering the information that they’ve picked up in previous chapters that helped build knowledge of the Bigger Bodies Initiative and Hour of Joy. However, the ending sequence is packed with information and surprises that change some of what was previously assumed.

The Prototype Destroys The Safe Haven

The Start Of The Ending Sequence

The ending sequence starts with the player being tasked with placing explosives in certain locations in the foundation, working towards Poppy’s plan to free everybody left behind in the factory by destroying it.When they return to the Safe Haven, the player finds it destroyedand Doey mourns his failure to protect the toys that looked up to him and needed him. When Doey spots the player, he starts to switch between his distress about the destruction and blaming the player for the destruction.

Depending on how many VHS tapes and notes were found before this point, the reason for Doey shifting between personalities is clear. As far as the information found in the game shows,Doey is the only known experiment that has the consciousnesses of three childrenextracted and put in him. One of those three children was known to be a troublemaker and had more violent tendencies, but for the most part, the other consciousnesses were able to stay in control instead, makingDoey a successful and safe experiment.

The Prototype likely had more than one reason to attack the Safe Haven. Doey was the toy sent to buy time against the Prototype, so he could be seen as a small threat, but that’s not the case for the rest of the toys in the Safe Haven. However, Doey cares about those toys, sodestroying them could distract Doey enough that the Prototype can create an opportunity for itself to take over Doey. This could be why the Prototype timed his use of Doey the way that he did, since Doey wouldn’t lose his stability without drastic actions.

Doey Is Destroyed While Controlled By The Prototype

He Removes One Of Poppy’s Strongest Allies

While theDoctor is the main villain ofChapter 4, the last fight is actually against the Prototype, who is the overarching villain for the game. The Prototype wears Doey like a suit, which means thatDoey is destroyed by the end of the battle, but it also means that this chapter includes a better glimpse of the Prototype than before by showing his shape. Of course, it would be too easy if this battle also destroyed the Prototype, so he survives the encounter and separates from the player as they go to regroup with Poppy and Kissy Missy.

How Long It Takes To Beat Poppy Playtime Ch. 4 Compared To Previous Chapters

Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 adds to the game with new enemies coming after the player, but how does its length compare to previous chapters?

It might’ve been useful for the Prototype to have Doey survive and continue being used as essentially a suit of armor. However, since Doey’s design made it possible for him to face the Prototype and buy time for the player, he’s one of a few toys who pose a threat to the Prototype, especially with his ability to stretch without breaking. If true, thenthe Prototype wins in the last fight, because he removes a threat to himself and suffers no real losses in the process. Sure, the Doctor can’t help him anymore, but that doesn’t seem important to him.

The Prototype Figuratively Removes His Mask

After defeating Doey and reuniting with Poppy and Kissy Missy, the Prototype reveals one of thebiggest lore updates inPoppy Playtime.Ollie has been the Prototype all along, not only indicating that the characters working against the Prototype have been manipulated by him, but that he’s also capable of mimicking the voices of other people. He says that Ollie was once a real child, but he died a long time ago. He also wants Poppy to come home, which leads to Poppy leaving on her own, abandoning the player and Kissy Missy.

Although it’s not expanded on, the conversation heavily implies that Poppy and the Prototype know each other from the past, and thePrototype is interested in keeping Poppy contained. She also implies that he’s the one who put her in the glass case, where she’s found at the end of the first chapter. With this information, it’s possible that the Prototype and Poppy knew each other when they were human, but it’s difficult to know with certainty if that’s true at this point. It seems like everybody else is just an obstacle with Poppy as his true goal.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 4’s New Monster Yarnaby Explained

Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 introduces players to the new toy Yarnaby, and he is as mysterious as he is terrifying.

Shortly after Poppy leaves, the ground caves in. Kissy Missy grabs onto the player to keep them from falling, but her arm is still injured, so it’s ripped off, resulting in the player falling. Moving deeper into the depths of the factory, there are more facilities built in this new area, but it looks like they’re used for resources and testing rather than a place where known procedures are done, like the prison and labs. One area is crucial for the Bigger Bodies Initiative, sinceit’s filled with poppy flowers that are being grown.

The chapter ends with an ominous tape from Leith Pierre confirming that scientists work in this area, and that an alarm goes off when the tape is played. As a result, Huggy Wuggy makes another appearance, running to the door, apparently acting as the security guard for this area, but also showing that he’s still alive, albeit with a few visible injuries. Now, the rest will have to wait until Chapter 5 is released, as Huggy Wuggy showing up marks the end ofPoppy Playtime Chapter 4.
