Rumors swirl that theAhsokaDisney+ TV show will be canceled after season 2, but in truth it’s likely it was never going to happen anyway. Rosario Dawson brought Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, to live-action at last inThe Mandalorianseason 2; nobody was particularly surprised when she returned as the star of her own show.Ahsokaseason 2is now expected to begin filming in April next year, presumably due to release in 2026.

New rumors from industry insiderDaniel RichtmansuggestLucasfilm is planningAhsokaseason 2 to be “a fitting conclusion” to the show, in case the series isn’t renewed for a third season. If this is the case, it’s reasonable to assume season 2 will wrap up a lot of the first season’s mysteries, finally explaining the secrets of the extragalactic planet Peridea, and it’s likely Ahsoka and Sabine will find their way back to the mainStar Warsgalaxy. Rumors ofAhsoka’s potential cancelation have sparked concern - butwe don’t thinkAhsokaseason 3 was ever on the cards anyway.

Ahsoka’s Cancelation Rumors Probably Don’t Mean A Change Of Direction For Star Wars

Lucasfilm is telling a transmedia story

Last year, at Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm announced threeupcomingStar Warsmovies; the most intriguing of these was a project by George Lucas' protégé, Dave Filoni, which was intended to wrap up the ongoing story ofThe Mandalorianera. Theend ofAhsokawas clearly a major step on the road to this destination, with Lars Mikkelsen’s Grand Admiral Thrawn returning to the mainStar Warsgalaxy. Plans have changed a little since then, withThe Mandalorianseason 4 morphing into Jon Favreau’sThe Mandalorian and Grogumovie, butthat still seems to be the destination.

There’s no possible world in the entire multiverse where Filoni wouldn’t bring Ahsoka back to the main galaxy for his movie.

Filoni worked with George Lucas himself when he created Ahsoka Tano, and his love for the character has become something of a running joke in the fandom; he went so far as to create theWorld Between Worldsas a way out of having Ahsoka die at Darth Vader’s hands inStar Wars Rebels.Ahsokaseason 1 was Filoni’s first live-action TV show, and his mysteriousMandalorianera movie will be another key milestone for him. There’s no possible world in the entire multiverse where Filoni wouldn’t bring Ahsoka back to the main galaxy for his movie.

Our Take On Ahsoka Season 3

Ahsoka Season 2 was always going to be an ending

What does this mean forAhsokaseason 2? Simply put, if Filoni’s movie is the end destination, then that season is best seen as the middle of a chess game- the point where a skilled player moves the pieces to the places they need to be in for the endgame. It was always going to be an ending in itself, because any third season would be part of a new wave of projects set during theNew Republic Era.Ahsokaseason 3 was never on the cards at all, meaning these rumors have missed the overall direction of this ongoing transmedia story.
