Scream Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott Ghostface Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers

I’m very, very happy (Scream 7 is) happening. We were supposed to start in September, but we’re going to start in December now because of some scheduling stuff with Kevin and myself and having that all aligned. And actually, I think it’s a good thing, because we’re going to be able to have the time to get it really right. So I’m very excited about it.

When Will Scream 7 Release?

Campbell’s confirmation ofScream 7’s filming start window is an exciting update for those who have been concerned of the sequel’s chances amid its behind-the-scenes troubles. But with a production schedule now revealed for the next installment, the question becomes when the movie will hit theaters. What Neve Campbell’s Return Means For Scream 7: Can It Save The $913M Horror Franchise?

Neve Campbell is officially coming back for Scream 7, and though this can open many doors for the franchise, its survival might not be guaranteed.

GivenScream 7is expected to begin in December, it does seem possible that the movie could release a year later, in December 2025, even in time for the franchise’s 29-year anniversary. That said, though, this would put the sequel up against some hefty box office competition, withfellow horror titleFive Nights at Freddy’s 2slated for December 5 and bothAvatar 3andThe SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePantsscheduled for December 19. With James Cameron’s sci-fi franchise remaining a box office juggernaut, and the horror game adaptation becoming Blumhouse’s highest-grossing movie to date, they could give the nextScreama run for its money.

Ultimately, the better option for Paramount in schedulingScream 7’s release date would be for early 2026. The past two movies released in January 2022 and March 2023, respectively, with the sixth movie also setting a record as the highest-grossing in the franchise without adjusting for inflation. With April 2026, in particular, only havingThe Super Mario Bros. Movie 2set for a release, it may be the perfect follow-up release month forthe nextScreammovie.
