Opera has released its newly redesigned Opera One browser for iOS. After testing it in beta for several weeks, Opera One for iOS is now available as a stable release. Allowing iPhone users to try another solid alternative to Apple’s own Safari browser.
Opera Releases Opera One for iOS
Ina post on the Opera Blogdated August 13th, Opera announced the stable release of Opera One for iOS. Opera describes Opera One as an “innovative AI-powered browser” that allows iPhone users to “enhance their browsing experience with Opera’s signature style and functionality”.
The new Opera One for iOS has Aria, Opera’s AI assistant, built-in, features a revamped search function with predictive keyword suggestions, a start page carousel, and design changes including an automatic full-screen view when you’re scrolling a page.
Aria is the headline attraction, as it canassist you with a wide range of tasks. This includes completing search queries as you type them, and creating generative text and images (using Google’s Imagen2 model) from simple prompts. Aria has been part of Opera’s iOS browser since 2023, but is now more baked-in than ever.
The big design change with Opera One is the full-screen browsing mode, which offers a distraction-free environment when reading a website. All unnecessary elements are hidden from view, with the top and bottom bars adapting to match the background. The start page carousel works on the same principle, matching with the color of your phone’s wallpaper.
Opera One for iOS also places the search button at the bottom of the screen, making one-handed navigation easier. However, you can switch it to Standard or Fast Action if you prefer. You can also activate the search function with a swipe-to-search gesture which matchesApple’s Spotlight search function.
Whichever one you choose, Opera will provide autocomplete suggestions designed to help you find what you’re looking for with fewer keystrokes. As anyone who has ever used Google will know, this means you’ll be provided with the best-matching options as you type.
Is Opera One for iOS Worth Downloading?
Opera One for iOSoffers something different for those who aren’t fans of either Safari or Chrome. However, it’s more of an evolution from the previous Opera for iOS release, rather than a revolution. Many of the elements, including Aria, have already been present for some time. AndOpera One has been available on desktopsince April 2023.
Just like banks and insurance providers, too many of us get so comfortable with our choice of browser that we never try the alternatives. However, even if you’re happy with the web browser you use, it’s worth checking out the competition occasionally. And Opera One on iOS offers the perfect opportunity to do so.
