Though there are many great new characters inSweet Homeseason 2, none made quite the same impression as Oh Jung-se’s Dr. Lim. From the first episode,Oh Jung-se’s performance as Dr Lim is unhinged and adds a whole new level of tension toSweet Home. Dr, Lim’s only real care is for science, prioritizing understanding the monsters and neohumans like Cha Hyun-su over human life, which he does not value. His sadistic tendencies take pleasure in the tragedies that occur in his experiments and make him one of the most necessary yet most dangerous people inSweet Home.
Dr. Lim may be a mad scientist, but Oh Jung-se’s performance ensures that his character is much more than that. He is a dynamic character who is not just eccentric for the sake of it. However, it is clear Dr. Lim’s only interest is his experimentsand he will do anything to ensure their success, no matter how brutal. This makes Dr. Lim an interesting new addition toSweet Home’scastand one that could be vital in its upcoming final season.

Though Oh Jung-se’s career is incredibly vast,one of his most memorable roles is that of Moon Sang-tae inIt’s Okay to Not Be Okay. Moon Sang-tae’s autism and the continued effects of childhood trauma make him highly dependent on his younger brother, Gang-tae (Kim Soo-hyun). Though their relationship can be strained at times,it’s evident how much they care for each other and how much Sang-tae values Gang-tae and wants to protect him as his older brother,but often can’t due to how overwhelmed he feels.
It’s Okay to Not Be Okay’s depiction of autism isn’t without its faults, but Oh Jung-se does a great job of portraying the complexities of his character. Sang-tae can be hard to understand at first, but the furtherIt’s Okay to Not Be Okaydelves into his story, the more Sang-tae’s patterns make sense. Plus, Sang-tae’s development from the beginning to the end of the series never loses sight of whom Sang-tae is as an autistic person, while also giving him the chance to grow and learn from each new experience.
Oh Jung-se won two awards for his role as Moon Gang-tae, including Best Supporting Actor at the 2020 Baeksang Awards.

Sweet Home’s Dr. Lim is a selfish and sadistic character who only cares about his experiments. Without his experiments, he loses interest and seems lethargic. However, his fascination with monsters and beratement towards humans makes him a very dangerous person, as he delights in the progression of his experiments and will not let anyone stand in the way of his success. Despite being only a minor character inSweet Homeseason 2,he has proven to be a vital insight into the monsters and the next directionSweet Homewill take.
Moon Sang-tae is also vital toIt’s Okay to Not Be Okayand its success. Sang-tae is passionate, much like Dr. Lim, yet his intentions are much less sadistic as he ultimately tries to do the best for his brother, although sometimes he physically cannot do so.He strives toward gaining his independence through the things he loves, such as drawing, and being seen as an equal by Moon-young (Seo Yea-ji) allows him to begin to flourish as his own person.
Despite their differences,Oh Jung-se’s portrayal of these characters really speaks to his talents as an actor. Both of these characters could have quite easily fallen into simple stereotypes that lack nuance, yet they both bounce off of the screen. They are easily two of the most memorable characters inSweet HomeandIt’s Okay to Not Be Okay, and makes rewatching them an absolute must.
