Silver Surfer 2099’s Board Literally Drags Him to Hell Whenever Mephisto Needs Him

A power exclusive to Jonah Marlo, the Silver Surfer of the year 2099, this ability is seen after Jonah, for the first time in years, shows mercy to an elderly woman on her deathbed, convincing her not to take a deal that would damn her soul for eternity. Immediatelycalled upon by an angered Mephisto— the master to Jonah’s version of the Surfer, a twist on Norrin Radd’s subservience to Galactus —Jonah’s board quite literally opens to hell and within moments, he is dragged down to Mephisto’s realmby clawed demon hands that latch onto him and won’t let go.
Flipping the abilities that Norrin Radd’s board has wherein it can absorb attacks and even imprison people for a time, Jonah’s board acting as a portal that dumps him directlyat the feet of Mephistois as much a punishment as it is a power, something that isn’t lost on Silver Surfer 2099. Furthermore, after Mephisto denies Jonah’s plead to punish him for damning so many souls,Jonah is sent straight back through his board to the exact spot in space he had left only moments before, showing off even more of the unique aspects inherent to this particular board.
Silver Surfer 2099’s Board Can Be Used as a Portal for Dimensional Travel
As a bonus,the character design sheets seen at the back of the issue explain that there are multiple “binding runes that link him to it”— meaning Jonah’s board — which, along with the runes on his body, signify “Mephisto’s hand in his fate,” forever attaching Silver Surfer 2099 to this evil demon king. It remains to be seen when fans will see Jonah Marlo’s version of Silver Surfer again, withSilver Surfer 2099’s “surfboard” having the ability to quite literally drag its owner to hell, being a dark yet apt power for this futuristic Marvel character.
