While r/television is a great place to find information on streaming television and interact with fans of your favorite TV shows, it strongly focuses on the news surrounding the television industry. This often includes updates on renewed and canceled shows, newly appointed and departed personnel, and the latest trailers and previews for upcoming TV events.

r/Documentaries
Streaming television has revolutionized the documentary industry, with each major platform offering a significant number of shows spanning almost every conceivable topic of historical and current importance. r/Documentaries is the best Reddit resource for finding informative, factual shows that appeal to your interests and learning about entirely new subjects.
Much of the content found on r/Documentaries is linked to news channels and may be behind paywalls, and some may link to subscription-based channels, whereas other suggestions may be viewed for free on platforms like YouTube or PBS. You are encouraged to ask for recommendations, discuss the best documentaries that may interest you, or seek assistance remembering a specific production, like that elusive BBC series about the Etruscan Empire you want to watch again. Alternatively, head over tor/tipofmytongueto find any type of media that you can remember details about but cannot place the name.

While there are stringent rules for posting documentaries, including banning amateur content, biopics, self-promotion, channel promotion, interviews, torrents, and vlogs, r/Documentaries is a cordial and relaxed community. Its members are predominantly there to seek and share knowledge, and there is a friendly vibe among comment threads overall.
r/CordCutters
As r/CordCutters is predominantly for streaming service suggestions and technical advice, Reddit’s search function is your friend here. Before posting a query, it’s best to type your keywords, like “Amazon Fire TV Stick” or “Samsung UI alternative,” into the search box to check if it hasn’t already been answered. If not, simply create a post by clicking the+ Createbutton in the top right of your screen, next to your profile image, and fill out the required fields.
r/CordCutters is also a great place to help others make better choices by sharing your opinions on your favorite hardware and providing tips onbetter using a streaming serviceor product. Reddit is a thriving community made possible by individual engagement, and by posting helpful content, you become a more valuable member by accruing Reddit “karma” in the form of upvotes.

r/ifyoulikeblank
The vast choice of streaming movies and TV shows can be overwhelming when faced with an entire library of content and a lack of inspiration. Those of us who often stare blankly at our UI as we endlessly scroll through menus will find the r/ifyoulikeblank subreddit very useful.
As the name suggests, r/ifyoulikeblank offers alternative recommendations for all different types of media based on association. This includes music, television, and movies, so, for example, if you like dark, surreal TV shows like Black Mirror and Atlanta, pitch your request, and the Reddit community will pile in with its suggestions. Alternatively, you can search for a show you like and see if anyone has previously responded with a list of recommendations.

To post on r/ifyoulikeblank, the title must be preceded by[IIL]for “if I like” or[IYL]for ‘if you like,” and ensure your heading is descriptive, with at least one example for reference. Next, select your relevant “flair” tag, such as Film, TV, YouTube/Streaming, or Music, to categorize your post and add a short body text to explain your request in detail. Then, sit back and wait for inspiration to strike, courtesy of the r/ifyoulikeblank community.
r/televisionsuggestions
An example of a r/televisionsuggestions post title might be “Name some good casual cop shows” or “What are the standout episodes of The American Experience on PBS?” It’s important to remember that this subreddit is explicitly for TV shows, not movies or other media. Your title should be descriptive but concise, and reviews, self-promotion, and spoilers are prohibited.
As r/televisionsuggestions/ is a more general subreddit, it offers plenty of opportunity for open discussion within the comment threads. You’ll often find good information and suggestions without posting a request. It’s therefore well worth visiting to find inspiration for what to watch in the daily posts and by using the Reddit search function.
Specific Streaming Service Subreddits
There is a subreddit for almost everything imaginable, and every streaming service provider has an unofficial forum that is independently moderated and maintained. These are helpful, dedicated spaces where you can discuss service-specific matters like technical advice, subscriptions, and streaming content.
