As it approaches its second birthday this May,Overwatchremains one of the most popular competitive shooters on the market. Thanks in large part to consistent updates from Blizzard,Overwatchcontinues to grow and evolve through numerous updates, special events, and new heroes. Afterannouncing Brigitte Lindholm as the newest heroto join the roster, many players have begun to debate how the various online metas will change if at all.
Thankfully,Overwatchdirector Jeff Kaplan was on hand to shed some light on the discussion. While many fans likely assume that D.Va and Reinhardt likely dominate the popularity contest, Kaplan’s tier lists actually contained a few surprises. The list he and his team put together is as updated as of March 1, prior to the start of season 9.

Master
Grandmaster
As expected, D.Va comes in first for nearly all of the competitive tier lists even with a number ofher recent adjustments last year. Healers are also well represented, though its interesting to see Mercy’s popularity decline the higher the tier list. Newcomer Moira also has a strong showing in most lists thanks to her balance of damage and healing potential. Soldier: 76 also falls off the lists completely once players reach diamond status, replaced by other offensive heroes like Tracer and Genji.
It’ll be interesting to see how Brigette shakes up the current lists as she’s really the first character to straddle the line between to archetypesbeing able to be both tank and support. Armed with a energy shield similar to Reinhardt and a rocket powered flail, her debut last week revealed her to be more powerful than originally intended. Blizzard reacted pretty quickly as a first round of nerfs have attempted to bring her back in line with the rest of the roster.
Overwatchis available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
