Everyone likes a cute cat—even more so when they’re bored at work. Opera understands this and has introduced a few new keyboard shortcuts for its Opera GX browser that put cat photos and more distractions a few keystrokes away.
Opera Announces Unique Keyboard Shortcuts
Opera GX unveiled four new keyboard shortcuts “to tackle some of life’s most pressing digital dilemmas” as follows:
Aside from excuses to get out of work,Opera’s announcement blog postdid not say how exactly it’ll clean up disk space. However, the shortcut on the blog post and in the browser links to a colorfully worded guide (mimicking wikiHow) on how to remove Edge. Once you’re done, the guide also prompts you to install the “far superior browser,” Opera GX.

If you’re in the EU, you can remove Edge from Windows by simply uninstalling it from theAppssection in Windows’Settings. However, removing Microsoft’s default browser is a hassle if you’re in any other region of the world. We’vecompared Opera GX and Microsoft Edgeif you want to make a more informed decision.
You’d reclaim roughly 300 MB of space on your drive by uninstalling Edge, which is not going to have a noticeable impact on your PC’s performance. Opera clearly thinks otherwise:

“We’ve all been there – experiencing frustrating slowdowns due to insufficient free disk space. Created in response to huge user demand, this new shortcut is our way of giving users a quick and easy tool to fight back against sluggish performance and reclaim their digital flow”, said Maciej Kocemba, Product Director at Opera GX.
The fake update screen is a neat gimmick. It also comes with a full-screen button in the bottom right that’ll hide the browser’s user interface and any Windows elements to really make it look like Windows is being updated, albeit very slowly. That said, your IT administrator or anyone who has spent a significant amount of time waiting for Windows updates to finish will be able to catch it after a few glances.
The keyboard shortcuts are only available for a limited time; you candownload Opera GXfrom the official website to give them a shot. If you’d rather not install another browser, you may instead click the corresponding links in Opera’s announcement.
My Quest to Find the Perfect Browser on Windows
If only it was simple.
I’ll give Opera credit for coming up with a fun way of getting people to try out the alternative browser. But given the announcement comes on April Fools' Day, I’d recommend taking claims of the keyboard shortcuts freeing up disk space, keeping your system running smoothly, and giving a better online experience with a pinch of salt.
