Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) standing on Dragonstone with Syrax, Vermithor, and Silverwing in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 7

I think we discussed it… I think there was a suggestion that Hugh is tentative, and he’s trying to coax this dragon out. I was on set and I said to Loni [Peristere, director] and to Ryan [Condal, showrunner] … “I want to be the dragon. I want to front the dragon.”

…I was like, look we’ve seenThe Revenant. We’ve seen these scenarios. I’ve stood in front of live lions. I’ve ridden horses. These things are f–kinghuge. This is a dragon that’s the size of four houses. You’ve got one chance, so make yourself as big as you can and just tell him — I said, “I just want to say, ‘I’m f–king here! What are you waiting around for?!’”

You know, it’s basically a bit of the dragon. That’s the point. Inside, I think they’re the same. There’s this thing that’s real. Like, all the Targaryens walk around with this idea that they’re sort of godlike, and they’re better than other people. They don’t necessarily understand it, but it’s in there. For so long, Hugh hasn’t acknowledged any of that. He’s been doing something else.

What House Of The Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 Mean’s For Team Black

Rhaenyra’s Side Just Grew In Power

Hugh isn’t the only King’s Landing commoner with Targaryen blood to bond with a dragon by theend ofHouse of the Dragonseason 2, episode 7. Though many who made the journey to Dragonstone end up dead, Ulf (Tom Bennett) also finds his own beast with Silverwing. Including Addam’s (Clinton Liberty) recent claiming of Seasmoke, team Black now has three more dragons at their disposal, and it seems like the balance of power has now shifted in their direction.

As was shown by the Battle at Rooks' Rest inHouse of the Dragonseason 2, episode 4, Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) and Vhagar are the biggest threat to Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) ascension to the throne. Vhagar remains the largest dragon in Westeros, but Vermithor, the second largest, joining the conflict means Aemond now faces a serious threat. As the final moments of episode 7 show,Aemond and Vhagar no longer enjoy total dominance of the skies, and they are forced to retreat after almost walking into a trap at Dragonstone.
