Neon Revenge, the first official world, is where you will find the first side story, and, unlike all the rest, you will be led directly to it. After giving you a quick cutscene to explain, you’ll have the option to enter into it.Side stories are not necessary to complete the game, but if you want the achievement for completing them and the achievements within them, you’ll want to ensure you do them all.

Characters from Split Fiction with the box

Portal Entry Location

Legend of The Sandfish

Navigate through the sands of time while encountering and riding on sand sharks to reach the end.

Play Me Techno

The first portal location is somewhat story-locked. Mio and Zoe will point it out and direct you over to it, followed by a quick cutscene, so this one can’t be missed.

Farmlife

Become pigs with quirky abilities as you go through the process of learning how sausage is made. Note thatthere are two achievements inside this story. Goin' Whole Hog: for interacting with the sleeping pig as Mio. Huffing & Puffing: For blowing down the remaining three little pigs' houses.

Streets of Neon

After the chase sequence in which the garage-style door is blown up and Mio and Zoe are trapped inside a building, head up the set of stairs on the right side, and they will lead to a platform where you should see a sign saying “Porcus Bank” with a pig on it behind a fence. Grapple over the fence to reach the side story.

Mountain Hike

Brave the world of giants as they assist you to your destination.

Big City Life

After landing inside the carpool, continue along the intended path until you reach the sitting bench. From here, grapple onto one of the passing cars to be dropped in front of the Gemini Imperium Hotel. This is the easiest side story to miss because it is actually on a raised platform behind you when you drop. To reach it, use Zoe to throw Mio while Mio is inside a porta-potty up to the platform. Then Mio can lower the ladder for Zoe.

Once you’ve completed a Side Story, you’ll spit right back out of the portal exactly where you entered it, and the portal will disappear. So, you never need to worry about it causing you to miss anything in the main chapter.

Train Heist, Gameshow, & Collapsing Star

After entering Zoe’s first chapter, you’ll have three new side stories to find. Unlike in Mio’s world, where all the side stories were Zoe’s, now you will be looking for three side stories from Mio.

Split Fiction’s Friend’s Pass Is Something All Co-Op Games Should Have. Here’s How It Works

Games can be expensive nowadays, but thankfully, the devs behind Split Fiction have come up with a way to make co-op gaming more affordable.

Note that each chapter’s side stories will all be for the opposite character, and thus the opposite genre, making them a great way to break up the feel of the chapter as well.

Location

Train Heist

Fly through this side story, across various level designs, to stop a sci-fi train heist and beat the conductor.

Lord Evergreen

During the segment where Mio swims through the water, holding a stick for Zoe to grab onto, there will be a quick segment where Zoe has to jump onto another stick while Mio has to swim around and retrieve her before she sinks. Immediately following this, there will be a landing platform for Zoe off to the right. From here, if you look up, you should see a side story portal on a ledge. Both girls need to wall run off to the left to go around the back way to reach it.

Gameshow

Participate in a bomb-themed gameshow where you’ll have to work together to keep from exploding. There is also an achievement here, Cold Potato, which can only be achieved if you complete the side story without blowing up even once.

Walking Stick of Doom

After completing the section where Zoe controls the environment while Mio swims through the water, avoiding predators, you will see a short transition where Zoe returns from the ground. Immediately following this, traverse across the bridge in front of you. At the end, when turning left, you should see a purple glowing structure to the left. This is where the portal entry can be found.

Collapsing Star

The sun is dying, and you’ll need to work together to avoid disaster while also pacing yourselves to avoid the pulsing solar flares.

Halls of Ice

While traveling through the ice castle, Mio and Zoe will need to complete a block puzzle by working together. Finish the puzzle to open a path to the next area where Mio will need to go underwater to launch a ball for Zoe to throw and break a window. Traverse the exterior until you reach the point where you grapple back inside the building, and the portal will be directly across from you in the room.

Side Stories will always look relatively the same, with a large glowing portal, but another thing that can make them easier to spot is that they’re also always somewhat leaking out into the chapter you’re in.

split-fiction-cover-art.jpg

If the portal is within your line of sight, Mio or Zoe will generally have a dialogue line acknowledging it and letting you know it’s nearby. However, they won’t acknowledge it if they can’t see it, which is why exploring is recommended.

For example, while going through one of Mio’s sci-fi cities, if you see a large section of grass and trees that seem out of place, then there’s probably a side-story portal nearby.

All Side Story Locations In Chapter 4: Final Dawn

Kites, Moon Market, & Notebook

Returning to Mio’s world, you’ll be able to find the last three of Zoe’s side stories in Chapter 4. Note that if, for some reason, you miss one, you canselect a chapter inSplit Fictionfrom the main menu.

Is Split Fiction better than It Takes Two?

I’m about halfway through my first run through Split Fiction, and I’m having an absolute blast. It’s not as casual as It Takes Two, but I love some of the more unique mechanics and all the great homages to classic video games of the past along with all the sci-fi/fantasy tropes. As much as I loved It Takes Two, Split Fiction is similar but it definitely takes things to the next level.

This means you can reopen the chapter andselect the last checkpoint before the Side Story, giving youanother chance to find it.

split-fiction-7.jpg

Kites

Complete a Kite Race by soaring through rings. Note that the winner of the race does not affect whether the side story is completed.

Toxic Tumblers

After the gun upgrade section, you’ll reach a point where spinning cylinders in toxic waste move from side to side as they roll. Traverse across them to reach the end of the tunnel, but before turning left to continue that chapter, keep going straight across four more spinning cylinders to reach a side story portal.

Moon Market

A small magical market where you’ll need to find three cat spirits to help you open a gate. Note that there aretwo achievementshere.Potion Chef:Unlock by completing every potion recipe on the sign near the cauldron.Chair The Load:Unlock by using the wand to turn Mio or Zoe into a chair and sit on them.

Test Chamber

At the end of the Test Chamber point, where you finish crushing the Factory Warden boss, climb the ladder beside where they were crushed. At the top, destroy some rectangular objects to reveal a blocked vent path. When you reach the end, use your guns to open the door and enter an area where you’ll activate machines that will move platforms for you. Towards the end of this area, when you reach the small spinning platform, continue straight along the path with the giant fish lying on it to reach a door you’ll need to use your guns to open. Behind the door is the portal to the side story.

Notebook

Explore Zoe’s notebook while she works through different ideas, changing things as you go.

Soaring Desperados

Shortly after the Overseer boss fight ends, Mio and Zoe will acquire jetpacks. Once you’re ejected outside, a large pipe with a large spinning blade will go down it repeatedly. On the other side of this pipe, you should see a small island with a glow around it and what looks to be a paper-crafted house. This is where the portal entry for the last side story in this chapter can be found.

The checkpoint-selecting option is especially important to keep in mind during Mio’s levels, as Zoe’s side stories within the space worlds tend to be easier to miss, so they are likely the ones you’ll need to return to. Also, keep an eye out forhidden easter eggs inSplit Fiction’s side stories.

All Side Story Locations In Chapter 5: Rise Of The Dragon Realm

Slopes of War, Space Escape, & Birthday Cake

While Chapter 5 is not the last of the chapters inSplit Fiction, it is the last one where you’ll find any side stories. Just like the other chapters, there are three to find here, and if you miss any, you can come back and complete them.

Co-Op Adventure Split Fiction Is Making Waves On Steam, & A Demo Is Available For Those Still On The Fence

Split Fiction was just released on all platforms on March 6, and it appears fans cannot get enough of the co-op adventure already.

split-fiction-6.jpg

Slopes of War

Race against each other on the slopes while trying to accrue the most points for cool tricks.

Water Temple

After the portion of this section where Zoe launches Mio using a catapult, you’ll ride an elevator platform up to where you’re expected to jump across two golden balls. Instead, veer off to the left and use two alternating moving platforms to reach a side-story portal on a ledge above.

Space Escape

Escape an exploding space station by traveling through Space to reach an escape pod.

Craft Temple

After completing the Dragon Slayer boss fight, continue along the intended path, and once you reach the area where you’re outside again, turn right. You should be able to see the side story portal glowing straight ahead. To reach it, have Zoe hit the gong with her dragon to raise a platform for Mio, who can then activate a way for Zoe to get across.

Birthday Cake

Traverse a wonderland of sweets as teeth before battling off against an evil dentist.

Treasure Temple

After being dropped off by the Dragon Soul, you ride on and continue until you reach a golden archway with flags on either side. Before going through, turn left; you should see a small floating island with candy and a rainbow over it.

Once you have completed the last side story in Chapter 5, you shouldreceive the Bookworms Achievement. Now, you can proceed into Chapter 6, whereSplit Fictionfocuses less on the chaotic fun of previous levels and more on the main plotline with Rader and Rader Publishing.
