Summary
Lewis Tan, star ofMortal Kombat 2, has a few different heroes that he would love to see in a potential sequel. It will be based on Ed Boon and John Tobias' video game franchise, which has become a worldwide hit. AsMortal Kombat 2is expected to be releasedon August 03, 2025, marketing for the movie has already begun atSan Diego Comic-Con. Director Simon McQuoid will be returning to the franchise after having directedMortal Kombat(2021). The original movie earned $84.4 million at the box office on a budget of $55 million.
While Tan is excited for the upcoming sequel, he is also interested in a potentialMortal Kombat 3. In an exclusive interview withScreen Rantat San Diego Comic-Con, Tan explained that there arethree characters that he would love to seein the third movie. He hopes to see them eventually join the movie franchise, though he did not hint at any discussions of potential appearances. Check out his hopes below:

I want to see Night Wolf, I want see Kenshi, and I want to see Smoke. Three of my favorite characters.
Which Characters Will Appear In Mortal Kombat 2?
Can Night Wolf, Kenshi, and Smoke appear?
TheMortal Kombat 2cast has already been announced. Unfortunately,it does not include Night Wolf, Smoke, or Kenshi. Instead, it will feature a wide range of characters, from Tan’s Cole Young to Hiroyuki Sanada’s Scorpion and Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage. The cast will be present to take part in a tournament, which will showcase many of the characters engaging in a constant series of small-scale battles. Check out the table below, which showcases each character and their respective actors:
Kung Lao
Max Huang
Many dead characters are expected to return, but that means there will be little space for new heroes in later movies. While the movie will feature manydifferent characters from the franchise, there will be no involvement by Tan’s favorite characters. With so many introduced, however,Mortal Kombat 3would need to dig deep into the video games to find new fighters. Night Wolf, Kenshi, and Smoke could fit perfectly and would mean that the threequel would not have to look too far to find new cast members, especially when Tan would likely be present to advocate for their inclusion.

Each of Tan’s favorites have their own unique qualities. Night Wolf is a shaman with magical abilities, while Kenshi is a blind man with powerful swordsman skills, and Smoke is an assassin who possesses invisibility and a wide range of skills with smoke clouds. Each could be interesting to see on screen, though the franchise will need to take care to portray them appropriately. Still,Mortal Kombat 2would need to see success before it can be approved. After the original struggled in the wake of the pandemic, that is not necessarily a guarantee.
