X-23 Lost Her Accent Because She’s Been Living In Canada Since Logan

X-23 no longer speaks with a Mexican accentinDeadpool & Wolverine. As shown inLogan, Laura was born and raised in a Transigen laboratory in Mexico, and while she does not speak for much of the film, her accent is quite prominent when she does. The absence of Laura’s accent inDeadpool & Wolverineis acknowledged by Dafne Keen in an interview withEntertainment Weekly, with Keen noting: “Laura has now been around a lot of English-speaking people, so she has a neutral accent every so often.”

The loss of X-23’s accent has a rather simple explanation, with Logan’s sacrifice allowing Laura and numerous other young mutants to escape Canada.Having grown up in Canada since the events ofLogan, it makes sense that X-23 would lose her accentover time. How Deadpool & Wolverine Sets Up X-23 To Join The Young Avengers

While the fates of her teammates in the Void are left ambiguous, X-23 is shown to be alive and well – and living in Deadpool’s reality – at the end ofDeadpool & Wolverine.This makes it possible for Keen to reprise her role in the MCU, perhaps as a member of the Young Avengers. The MCU has gradually introduced members of the Young Avengers and teased the team’s formation at the end of 2023’sThe Marvels. WithDeadpool & Wolverineseemingly making MCU crossovers possible – if not likely – Keen’s X-23 could find herself joining the team in a future film.
