Warning: Spoilers for Uncanny X-Men (2024) #4Wolverineis in part defined by looking very, very cool, and his newest ‘costume’ might just take the cake for cool factor. However, as cool a look as it is, it’s not a good sign for Logan’s mental health, and this newest X-Men mission might be one of Logan’s most dangerous ever because of it.

InUncanny X-Men #4,Wolverine debuts a new look as he blindfolds himself after being temporarily blinded by the villain Sarah Gaunt.

Wolverine blindfolded and bloodied in Uncanny X-Men (2024) #4

The hag-esque Sarahused her claws to rip Logan up horrifically, but all this really means is that Logan looks even more badass than usual. Now, magical forces under Sarah’s control are surrounding the decrepit Louisiana mansion that the titular team have holed up in and, despite his state, Logan’s never been one to walk away from a fight. Sonow he’s donning a blindfold and fighting shirtless and bloodied.

Wolverine’s new blindfolded look makes him look cooler than ever

The idea of a blind fighter is one of the most common tropes in fiction, and Marvel has no shortage, from Daredevil to Gorgon. Logan perfectly fits this archetype. Like many blind fighters he has enhanced senses to make up for his blindness, and like many more, he’s kind of a swordsman, just with different types of blades. This intersects neatly with Wolverine’s characterization as a Ronin, a masterless Samurai, in various solo comics, mostly those set in Japan. This latest look is just an extension of the vibes that Logan’s pulled from since the ’80s.

As badass as this moment is, it’s also a little concerning for Logan’s mental state. When Rogue finds him, he practically begs her to let him just die, and then tries to pawn off his healing factor onto her, which would likely just see him bleed out. Logan’s not in a good place, and as cool as him fighting blind will be, he’s being suicidaly reckless in a way that betrays just how messed up he is beyond his physical injuries. This time, it might be up to the other X-Men to just keep him alive.

Logan’s Blindness Means He’s More Than Just Physically Wounded

This makes sense considering Logan’s recent journey. In writer Benjamin Percy’sX-Force (2019)andWolverine (2020), Logan’s been through hell, from being mind-controlled into an assassin by Beast, to having Sabretooth kill his son Daken. Logan’s at a low point, and he barely wants anything to do with Rogue’s X-Men. Logan’s alsoabandonded his classic role as a mentorto younger mutants, or at least he says so. However, with Gaunt threatening a new generation of younger mutants,Wolverinemight find that his paternal instincts aren’t as dead as he’d like to pretend.
