The answer to today’s Wordle is “FACET”.
The word “Facet” is a noun usually used to refer to one of the definable aspects of a broader subject. As in, “We need to examine every facet of this issue before we make a decision”. It can (though less commonly) also refer to a small surface (on a cut diamond, for example) and a smooth anatomical surface (on a bone, for example). “Faceted” is the adjective meaning many-sided, as in “She had a multi-faceted career”.
According tothe Online Etymology Dictionary, “Facet” originated in the 1620s, with the diamond-cutting meaning being the original one. However, its roots date back much further. The word itself comes from the Old French “facete,” meaning face or appearance. The word “face” comes from the Latin “facia,” which was used to refer to appearance or form. We still use “fascia” today to refer to coverings of various kinds.
