In 2006, Limp Bizkit went on hiatus, and in that time, Fred Durst became interested in Hollywood. He made two independent movies before the band reunited in 2009, the dramaThe Education of Charlie Banksin 2007 and the sports dramedyThe Longshotsin 2008. InI Saw the TV Glow, Durst plays Frank, the silent stepfather of the protagonist Owen (Justice Smith). While Frank doesn’t say much, his suffocating presence in Owen’s life is enough, and watching Owen have to tiptoe around his foreboding stepdad is stressful and tense. Durst plays a completely different character in Kyle Mooney’s disaster comedyY2K, in which he plays a version of himself.
Y2Kis more obvious in its acknowledgment of Durst’s fame and, while the high schoolers’ obsession with Bizkit and Durst is tongue-in-cheek, the frontman is totally game to mock himself.
In this film, Durst teams up with a gang of high schoolers to survive the sudden animation of every appliance on Earth, which are now set on wiping out humanity.
